It's funny, i have the exact opposite problem. I suck at hookups but when I do get laid, the girl gets more attached.

If she's already attracted, she doesn't want to talk, she wants to fuck.

It depends on context, too. For instance, nobody goes to clubs and bars to have deep conversations.

Ages of the girls also affects things. If she's young, she'll have the attention span of a goldfish. If she's older, she may be looking for something long-term, and a "connection".

As mentioned, how you appear will also affect how you're perceived, i.e., as a nice guy, BF, or scumbag, as GLL discusses retention.

There are several variables, and it's not clear from your post what it could be. One thing did stick out:

i feel like when i do talk to a girl i like im just sitting accross and were talking till the conversation dies down and then thats when i feel the attraction completely vanishes.

You should be sitting next to them, not across from them.

The more I live life, I realize that being direct (in a non-autistic manner) is what wins. They probably got tired of you beating around the bush and got bored. Always be making moves.
