I was/am outraged at what I heard my husband say to our 15 year old son about a week ago. Our son has started dating and he’s been coming to me for advice since his dad is on the road for work a lot. He was home last week when he was telling us about how he bungled things with the girl he was talking to.
I told him basically to move on and reinforced the advice I’d given him before about being respectful and polite.
As I left the room he asked his dad what he thought and his father said, “never listen to what women say about dating. Just pay attention to what they do. Your mother will tell you things because she thinks they’ll work, but trust me, it’s better to just watch how they behave and change your behavior based on that.”
This struck me as being incredibly sexist and dismissive of not just what I said but if who I am as a woman. What about our daughters??? I feel like this was an awful thing to reach our son but my brothers and my dad all laughed it off and said he was right.
Am I overreacting or is my husband actually the sexist asshole?

People on the internet are too quick to make hard calls on bias, little, or no information. The people acting like the dad is the antichrist are a bit much.
It is always a bad idea to undermine the orher parent in front of child as it teaches them the same. But his lesson is not so bad. Or he'd worded it better like "pay attention to body language and tone, not just the words" or "don't be afraid of rejection as long as you can take a hint."
Most of the people jumping the gun are hearing the dad say "no means yes." instead of "no means not right this second, and doesn't mean you better never try again"

There's definitely nothing wrong in the advice. I wouldn't call the lady an Asshole because misunderstanding is a common trait especially when it comes to gender based issues for women. But it's still misunderstanding on her part.
What people who comment purely judgemental high imagination posts supporting that the husband is an Asshole, they fail to understand the perspective bias that comes with listening to the depiction by a person who herself thought it was sexist. Therefore it is almost certain that her story will make him look like a sexist even if he isn't so, simply because in her mind it was so.
Even with this, I don't see how it was sexist in any way. All bad listeners on the sub just read "don't listen to women". It is likely that they do so with any advice they are given and turn it something it is not. The advice is succinct and clear and leaves it on the son to understand and adapt.
Whether he chooses to interpret it as "stalk the girl even if she says no" or not is more a matter of how he has been raised. Judging by the reply of the husband to the wife's confrontation, which made a lot of sense and was polite, I think it is fairly good.

I think OP is misunderstanding what the Dad said. I don't think he meant to never listen to women, but that when it comes to dating and looking for signals, he needs to watch instead of listen.
But like most of the these posts it's probably it's a miscommunication error.
