In light of the discussion on pink taxes, is there a way to break down who pays taxes by gender, race, age, etc?

It's an interesting question in general, but I'm not sure how it'd be relevant to the pink tax. The pink tax is about price differences for services/commodities targeted at women, not about literal taxes (though sometimes sales taxes on necessities like menstrual products are mentioned).

Income taxes or overall taxes, on the other hand, are based largely on wealth and not demographics. For example, young women in large cities currently make more than young men in those cities, and so the women likely pay more taxes. But that's not filed under the "pink tax" because that difference is due to wealth/income.

edit: also a large chunk of the pink tax can be debunked without needing other data as a reference point. For example, women with short hair are charged more than men with short hair because women's short hair cuts tend to be more technical and time-consuming. Or shaving companies have claimed that women's razors go through separate R&D and cost more for an objective reason (I'm not sure I buy that one though).

Meh. I'm sure if the government, or an entire grocery chain, did a survey you could. But that takes time and money.

Theoretically you could find some of that info by looking into information collected when someone signs up for a rewards card, but I've never had one that asks for my ethnicity or sex. Just age, income, and what my zip code is.

Hell, my grocery rewards card isn't even that good...It's supposed to offer you coupons based on your purchasing history, and every other time I pay, it spits out a coupon for deli meat, seafood, etc. when I'm a vegetarian. Why the heck is it trying to get me to buy steaks or lobsters if I don't eat animals? Lol.

I'd assume companies would be the ones to have this sort of information. Through whatever market research and surveys they do. But I doubt they'd share it. The info is essentially money for them because it lets them find and target markets. Which is essential to making sure your advertising dollars aren't wasted.

Edit: If you mean government taxes, I'm sure the IRS keeps enough info to extrapolate. But again, they wouldn't share it. Analysis of it, perhaps, but not the info itself.

A survey of grocery purchases wouldn't mean much since it's so common for people to shop for their partner or spouse too.

They do a ton of datamining with loyalty cards, they just have to do a lot of filtering before that data becomes meaningful. But they find a lot of interesting stuff when they do... for example (I temped for a market research agency a few years back) new dads tend to impulsively buy beer when they buy diapers, so a few mass market beer brands started putting up endcap displays in baby supply aisles.
