Because partiarchy conditions not only women but men too. In this system, you're worthy as a man only if you meet a list of certain requirements, the most important of which is your physical strength and courage i.e. the ability to defend your 'turf' using violence. This tradition provides clear answers which are still emotionally charged but which are not relevant anymore, and modern men often yearn for that kind of simple certainty in our increasingly uncertain world.

Dude, any of these neck beards who constantly tout about “traditional manhood” and “weak modern men” are usually fat neck beard slobs who couldn’t sprint 10 feet without going into cardiac arrest. Take what they say with a grain of salt.

There’s a Stephen hawking quote about how people who brag about their IQs are losers. I think the same applies to dudes who brag about their masculinity.

I always viewed it as this.

A man should not actively seek out violence but should also not refrain from it when needed. using violence to protect yourself and loved onces is what i as a man view as a masculine trait.not everything can simply be defended by words alone.

Warfare goes the same. alot of wars where fought because men just tried defending and fighting for what was behind him. not neccesarily to kill what was in front of him just to prove he was a man.

Alot of people try to put war into the Toxic masculinity narrative. but this comes from people who have an overly simpistic view of History and the many Reasons why Wars where fought.

Humans are beasts of burden. We grow and improve through tackling challenges, not from living a comfortable life. The problem for men is that you need to pick your calling, and that's hard to do. At the same time living a comfortable life is tempting, and in the west reasonably available as an option.

The whole notion of war being good for manhood is that a war forces a calling upon you. When there's war, you don't get to sit on the fence about what you want to do, and waste time comfortably playing video games all day. You're forced to go out there and do something difficult and challenging, and if you survive you will be more than you would've been otherwise.

This is considered a uniquely male thing because women have a calling built into them biologically: they can make babies, and are born with a strong disposition towards making use of that ability. It's a huge responsibility that is forced upon them by nature, and that literally means that they're on a mission to get their shit together well enough to start a family and successfully raise kids.
