They have been taught to view themselves as living in a rape culture, and see rape everywhere, its misandry and a bunch of other things imo.

I don't know, it is pretty weird. I wouldn't want a statue of a middle age woman sleep walking in her granny panties up in my college either. Also, it falls in the uncanny valley, so I'm not surprised people find it uncomfortable. But I wouldn't go so far as to petition to have it removed.

I agree with your first reaction, but that is not the reaction it is getting from the women critical of it.

These women aren't saying it's gross and ugly.

They're saying it looks like a tableau of sexual assault. That this sleepwalking naked man will trigger PTSD in rape victims or something.

When people find a piece of art uncomfortable but can't articulate why they tend to grasp for reasons that fit it into their accepted critical framework.

As far as artworks go it is creepy as shit. Where they're going wrong is their reading of why it is. If it reminds someone of sexual assault its because the image of a vulnarable, zombified body wandering naked in the snow is so unsettling on a gut level.

If I saw that in the middle of the night I'd be scared. I suspect that it was placed there of all places to spark controversy.

I think it should actually have been a statue of Slenderman or pennywise the clown from the movie It. Also don't unveil it, just construct it there in the middle of the woods and leave it there to provoke fear and wonder in its eventual discoverers.

Oh, hell, I'd be scared too.

It's not a rational fear and that suggests it's actually a prejudice.

It's called the uncanny valley, if you can call that a prejudice.

I wouldn't say it's misandry. I think this is a situation where women (especially feminists) are objectifying themselves.

They are giving 'action' to a motionless statue of a vulnerable man. And they are the objects this statue is acting on with horrifying repercussions. Trigger warning!
