While women take a man's looks into consideration, it is certainly not the only criteria. An older man may have a large degree of success, and the markers of success, which easily causes a young woman to want him. After all, his gametes are far from suffering the plight that faces female eggs.

I often see this argument on TRP. Women have a limited number of eggs, where as men can produce sperm well into their 40s and 50s. I had to wonder, doesn't male sperm degrade over time? Other studies have demonstrated that after 40, a man's fertility decreases rapidly. There are plenty of other studies as well that tie paternal age to Autism, IQ, Bipolar disorder, and a whole host of other genetic/epigenetic diseases.

I'll admit that a lot of these topics are somewhat new and aren't as well established, but it seems there's a decent argument that men have a relatively short "prime child bearing age" just as women do.
