I am pretty blunt by nature. Obviously I have tact and won't say something to an authority figure that can get me kicked out, but I have been known to say controversial things to professors or challenge them if they say something stupid/something doesn't make sense.

For example, we had a German professor come and I told a girl he looks like a Nazi scientist and I thought it was funny. She said 'I can see it but I wouldn't go that far'.

Recently, I was getting drinks with the boys and we were talking about our class and they said that I am far too blunt and can say controversial things that can scare girls off - they essentially say I can use locker room talk outside the locker room and shit on people for no reason (I don't think the second is justified).

I lack the energy/creativity to come up with fun/witty one liners that people seem to invent here, and I prefer the direct approach as it saves me effort. Whenever a girl says snarky things or acts snarky I will say "whoa you're rude" as loud as I can or put them on the spot in front of everyone or even tell them I don't like their behavior one on one.

For example, I had an extension cord in a room I was sitting in just in case I would need to charge my laptop (my batteries shit), when a girl walks up and starts taking the extension cord I was like "I'm using that" and she got super snarky and threw it on the table in a huff and stalked off. Next time she walked by I said, "Whoa you're super rude aren't you" so people around us could here. She's always making snarky comments too.

So are my boys justified in their criticism and this is something I need to work on? Or is it unjustified?

PS. Whenever I feel an insult should I stand up for myself or is it just being butthurt?
