LTR is going great - she shows high interest, blows me when I want to, we fuck all the time & all around everything is smooth. However today something put me off.

We were in my car and suddenly she checks her phone and says 'the fuck' in an angry tone. I see what's on her phone and it's her snapchat and she just got a snap from a guy. I ask her what's up and she says it's nothing. My brain starts thinking and I go quiet for a bit while she stays normal until she notices my behaviour. I ask her what was that about and she tells that it was just an old ex of her snapping her out of nowhere. I ask her why is she still in touch with her exes and she says that she's not with him in particular but with another one. I ask her why is she still in touch with that ex and she tells me that she likes to be on good terms with everybody, that he's on the same track team and that she likes talking about me to him.

I still tell her that I don't like my girlfriend being in touch with her exes and that it's disrespectful. She says that it's fine and that she can tell him that it's better that they don't talk to each other. I didn't really ask her to but she does this instantly in front of me. We discuss more about the whole situation and I learn that he's an ex from 2 years ago and that they had a thing that lasted like 2 months.

I explain to her that how it sounds to me that she's talking to an ex, no matter what the circumstances and that it doesn't play out with me and she starts crying. She says that she's sorry and that she didn't know I wouldn't approve since she doesn't even herself think of him as an ex. She continues by saying that she knows that I have short temper regarding bullshit and that she's afraid that I'm mad at her and that she'll lose me.

Did I handle this correctly? I don't know if this counts as mate guarding or not since it's her ex and it definitely is not appropriate to talk with an ex. Some of you probably say that I should have dropped her on the spot but my gut felt like she was genuinely sorry.
