Is it fine to joke around trade one another/have banter when you meet someone for the first time, or is it better to get to know more about them and then go on with the banter? I am usually a fun guy and can banter good (depending on how comfortable I am with the people) but I dont think it's worked out so well when I do it with people. But I am not myself when I dont do this and instead it just makes the meeting awkward. What do I do?

My social skills are off and I hugely rely on banter to make things fun, but I stopped doing it in fear I would be disliked and just seen as annoying.
