I was just thinking today how therapeutic lifting is. YMMV but my mind just goes empty while I'm lifting. No matter the stresses I have that day, my mind is just focusing on how my muscles feel (tightness, conditioning for the next set) and the music.

The emotions of these stresses linger though, so you let out the emotions, the cloudiness, the tension in your mind, all without having to actually address the problems causing them.

Once I'm out of the gym, I start remembering everything going on that day but it's a totally different perspective. Magic.

When I'm pissed I visualize myself punching whoever it is in the face while I lift. It helps.

For workouts i recommend a punching bag for relieving anger, it helped me control my anger better since id get tired fast if i punched it while too angry.

Be patient and try your hardest to let it go without letting yourself become angered or frustrated. Your threshold for anger and frustration will increase until it is unreachably gone. Like everything else, patience can be trained.

Anger is perfectly acceptable when somebody has wronged you. Don't let yourself be a fool and burst out for teasing, but don't let people step on you and pretend your passivity is stoicism.

Never let work or life's daily problems cause you frustration or anger, be above that.

Frame doesn't mean "anger management". It means "controlling the interaction". Being in the driver's seat of the conversation.

If you deal with your issues beforehand, it's much easier to maintain frame in the present.

Speak the truth, with passion.

Think as you wish, but behave like others.
(One of the 48 laws of power).

I don't encourage dishonesty, but ... sometimes it's best to just STFU.

Speaking the truth in this case - we're discussing frame, and anger outlets to let of the steam caused by not lashing out when our frame is challenged - speaking the truth here (with passion) sort of sounds like fighting back, making a show of your point of view.

The problem with that is holding frame is about being above the fray. Sometimes a dismissive comment, identifying the game someone is playing and commenting on it by analyzing the subtext under a microscope, can work - but it is not so widely applicable as agree and amplify, disagree and amplify, power flip, etc.

Aside from the law of power above, there are a lot of sayings that apply here - especially the ones about casting pearls before swine (feminists won't appreciate your insights into evolutionary biology), and when the student is ready, the teacher will appear (i.e. target your truthful insights to people who demonstrate readiness to hear them.)

You may need to modify your perception of what the anger inducing behavior means. As a major part of constructing reality involves creating associations and ascribing meaning.

This demonstrates a very good understanding of reality. This idea is the foundation for powerful spiritual rituals (e.g. voo-doo rituals). Great post and great advice. Thanks.

During periods of stress, I tighten my core and keep a calm, cool, composed demeanor and manner of speech.

After the period of stress, if it is something where I feel slighted or angry I try to reason through it and empathize; pick your battles. For instance, sometimes people I work with can lose their cool on me. That's fine, they're shooting the messenger because they're in a high pressure environment, or they were raised that way. I then ask myself several questions:

1) What implications does this have for me? Does this stand to affect my working relationship with others, or hurt me in another way?

2) What is my backup plan? If I were to lose my job, forced to leave college or whatever other consequence, how would I deal with it? Am I preparing for my future, saving and formulating a backup plan?

Other times, there is something that legitimately infuriates me. I use that anger as fuel when I lift. However, be careful about anger and mental tasks. Anger and fear release cortisol, and spurs the fight or flight reflex which is is detrimental to making crucial, wise decisions in the heat of the moment. Calm and collected is the best route.

In the big picture, most of your problems are not life changing so don't let them take years off your life.
