"In this field there is no one who can claim to be the best," it was the first time I heard someone say that, "if someone says here, 'I know how every rope in this shit works. I can fix this and that and all other things that you specialists can't do by yourselves'," he kept at it, "'You don't trust that man.' This field is very strict, this thing is governed by physics and if you don't want to screw up, you follow the physics."
The man was twice my age. He is the greater alpha. He had the money, I only have myself, not to mention that tradition demands respect be given to someone his stature. There is no posturing from him or me. The TV is on in front of us, but no one was paying attention. The natural lull let up just when the commercials came in, some commercial concerning celebrity news. Probably TMZ. It was about this dude getting into a new relationship or something. The guy is apparently very in love with the girl, like how Tom Cruise was in Oprah's talkshow. Very much like that. "It's really silly when a guy was like that," I said, probably to myself. "Yeah." he added. I continued, "I doubt that that girl would stick for long."
"She wouldn't respect him," it's about time he speaks. I wasn't expecting it. I've seen more than one competent man being clueless with women. It's like seeing the general of an army in complete uniform and all his decorations, ducking on all-fours like a stupid dog, held on a leash by a woman laughing at his pathetic state. But this time it's different, "You tell the girl who has the pants between you two."
I am sure he never lurks at TRP; he can't even type using more than two fingers from each hand. That lack of proficiency in typing stuff is something that one of his co-workers give him shit for, but he was never bothered, he just calls that co-worker time and again to make him do the report for him. He doesn't even have to rely on Machiavellian tactics to pull it off, he just calls the guy, the guy complains and gives him shit, but still ends up doing it for him anyway. No ego. No I'mma-beat-yo-ass-if-you-don't-do-this posturing. Just pure calling someone to do shit for him.
The mother of his kids gave us food to eat. Then she went on to close the glass windows of their house. "Should the lights outside be turned on like that?" "Yeah," he said, "then close the doors." So she did. "Secure it," and so she did.
