Two days ago I told her she needs to stop taking potential risks of contracting COVID outside of her job. If she gets it I cannot go to work, and between us I am the breadwinner. I have a high responsibility job that is technical and requires skill, so my employer has a hard time getting people to fill the shoes if I get sick. 1/4 of my work personnel are home sick right now with COVID because a couple people didn’t take this pandemic seriously. Their positions have been filled by people on other crews, and from what I hear the transition may be permanent. Not sure what’s gonna happen when the sick people come back to work but all of a sudden we’re hiring.

Including the concern that I may either lose my current position, or any other negative consequences of getting COVID other than just getting COVID, I am starting up a program from the ground up at work. I have a team now and I cannot work with them if I can’t get to work. I have worked very, very hard in my life to get this job and have these opportunities.

She and I both go to the gym. the gym I go to is small, and I go when there’s at the most 3 people there. I wear my mask when I workout, and sanitize shit before and after I lift. It’s annoying but it is what it is. She says she wears her mask but apparently the gym she goes to has a fuck load of people at any given time. I didn’t know that. I’m cool with us going to the gym and getting groceries outside of work, because we’re taking care of ourselves. I find my gym to be a low risk chance of getting COVID because the people there are more likely to take care of themselves. It’s a crowd that I’ve known for years.

What I have an issue with is her meeting her coworkers two, three times a week at a bar. This started happening about three weeks ago. My employer didn’t start making drastic changes at work until many people got COVID so I wasn’t as concerned as I am right now.

Two days ago I told her this needs to stop. She needs to stop taking unnecessary risks because they can affect more than just her. Her response is “well I can’t get COVID either”.

Well on all days other than my birthday while I’m at work on night shift she decides to not listen to me. I told her that I’m done because I’m not taking any chances with her. She clearly doesn’t care about what I said, or the risks associated with her job or mine.

Does this sound reasonable? I know in my heart if she wanted to listen she would have.
