My ex started studying Counselling in night school once a week. It poisoned her mind. Couldn't resist minor tests on me it seemed. It helped her apparently realise she needed to end our relationship. But also allowed her to be able to keep that completely hidden so it was sprung on me out of nowhere

During our break up she told me she would be using the free sessions provided by her college to get Counselling of her own (don't ask me why they let people who badly need Counselling themselves learn how to give it to others). I naively thought it would help settle her mind and bring her round. It made things worse

It seems like pure poison

I feel like there must be proper therapy/psychology out there. But it is very sketchy that they can let people with severe anxiety and self esteem issues in. Not everyone is strong enough not to reflect what they learn back on themselves very harshly and then make sudden and irrational decisions

Yes this is what has put me off trying to seek it out. I think it was always an underlying doubt that was hardened due to my story above

They also seem like they want you to do all the work anyway. I appreciate I would need to work out the improvement but it almost seems like I would have to do it all.

I think I had one phone based counselling session when diagnosed with depression and was basically told to think about and list things to be grateful for etc. As well as a few other things. And I was like "I thought we would talk and you would ask certain questions that would lead me in the right direction". Not me doing *everything* by myself

Gosh anyone could rustle up a list of "tools" and tell someone to follow them

(I always made it very clear I wouldn't be taking any psych medication)
