Bullshit.

The first credit card, as known today was Diners Club, and everybody could own one.

The source of the lie is that credit is given to people with verifiable income, and most married women didn't worked, because they exploited their husbands, which were legally responsible for the credit card debt.

On the 70's, banks realized that wifes would spend their husband money if they allowed credit card extensions to family members. So they invented cards for the wife.

But that was not the first time women were allowed to own a credit card. It is a feminazi scam.
