Yes but we can draw some similarities to the flu nonetheless: neither virus has a cure, they both are most serious when they reach the respiratory system, and they both spread quickly. You made an incorrect assumption that I think I'm invincible, no I listen and abide by all the state and governmental rules and suggestions. Italy made fatal mistakes early and Europe as a whole is screwed because they allow the free flow of people from country to country with very little control over the daily transmission. Europe was under the gun from the start. Both China and South Korea have seen vast improvements and appear to be in an early recovery phase. We already have drugs that have proven effective against the virus and there will be more and more therapeutic and preventive measures as research continues. The average age of death is still around 80 meaning this early indicator has not changed. Definitely common sense measures should be followed, but you must not realize the damage of the hysteria which could actually leave a worse impact than the virus itself.

Kinda of. Yes its a virus however its massively more infectious than the normal flu and the consequences are much more severe. If compared to the flu its probably more like the Spanish flu in 1918

Yes totally. They are making the same mistakes here in the UK and US as well. They have gone for voluntary isolation and close many places but left the supermarkets open when the shelves are empty as people stock up and form in long queues which is probably the cause of the virus spreading then going back day after day to try to get the things they are normally used to living.

That's good. Many people I see in my country currently are not and they are going to cause significant problems down the line.

Yes its true that these are the people that mostly die are older. But if you read more into this a lot of the young who do end up in the ICU and a number of the severe cases result in permanent lung damage etc... So there is consequences to normal people of all ages.

The other major side effect here is the young survive when they are in ICU beds available and assume that the health care facilities are not overwhelmed. When the health facilities runs out of stock (pipes, cloths, people, oxygen, etc..). The young will also start to die since there won't be sufficient medical facilities.

USA is going to be fucked. Currently they have jumped to 3rd position and are seeing +10k new cases a day. But Thurs/Friday they will probably be the leader in terms of total cases and by the middle / end of next week they will be the leader in deaths.

Would not be surprised if we are seeing 1500+ deaths a day in the US by the end of next week. (They are double of Italy in terms of cases).

No shit the US will have more cases, we have a higher population than the UK, Italy, France, and Spain combined. Basic ratios could tell you that if the trend stays the same from country to country we will have more cases. If the death age stays around 80, then it won't surprise me at all, in fact it should be expected that deaths will increase dramatically. I still think people are sensationalizing this disease to a point of stupidity, as long as you follow the guidelines put in place and use common sense, you will decrease your chances of infection drastically. I will hold my point that as long as the avg death age is 80, this disease is not as lethal as you think, it is killing the weak and frail just like any other major disease would. Pneumonia is fatal for the elderly, Flu is fatal for the elderly, Hell a basic cold can develop into full body infections and lead to death in the elderly. The reason we take these precautions is to protect the weak and frail from a disease that will almost certainly kill them. That doesn't mean buy all the toilet paper and paper towels like it's an apocalypse. Honestly I shouldn't even ask for cool heads and common sense because they are far from common in the world today. However, you cannot base the lethality of a disease solely on the dying of an elderly population, what you are giving as statistics as a whole only reflect one sector of the population, this means that to throw around the broad statement "death rate" or "deaths per day" is misleading. Try death rates among 20 year olds, death rates among 40 year olds, and death rates among elderly. Split the data up and analyze it as it stands, it paints a more in depth picture. Instead of providing death stats, how about trying to encourage people and be positive, it's a lot healthier for everyone involved.

There is a big different between somebody reading something as sensationalised and something based on actual data. If you are between 20-50 and infected your probability of death is still going to be 0.2% or so. Or 200 per 100,000 people compared to the flu rate which is 2.0 per 100,000 people (which also includes the elderly).

So please stop comparing it to the flu. Its at least 200 times worse than that.

The flu typically isn't fatal for anyone under the age of 50-60 years old unless there is underlying complications. The corona virus is.

I agree completely. I also think its the worst possible course of action is to go and mix with people in a public space like standing in a queue in a super market. This will spread the infection in the fastest possible way and like you said there is no common sense being applied.

At least this "bulk buying" will stop soon the moment people realise that this is whats actually causing them to get sick. The sad part of this is that it also causes the isolation/quarantine measures to run on much longer than required.

Right.... Which is about the worst possible thing you can actually do. Which is to talk to people in was as seeing things as positive or negative. The issue I have with this is that I am neither sensationalising or attempting to be positive or negative but I am in fact being realistic based on the data and you don't like that because you cannot handle or accept the truth or the reality of what is about to happen.

That's also the sort of mindset of pure ignorance like many of the young people who's attitude is to "Only the old will die" so the younger people are all out still trying to continue their life around them until some of their friends around them will start to die. Only at that point with the realisation of reality set it and how sorry they will be then....

The same attitude is coming out of the western governments and their guidelines. The underlying information coming from WHO is very very different for guidelines. The western governments are going down a route of proportional response. In my opinion this is the worst possible mistake we can make. Only time will tell just how badly we have fucked it up.
