Without bothering to read the article, I'll give away the most obvious reason: because family vacations are freaking expensive. As I stated before, I only made it as far as being engaged, but it was still an eye opener. It's amazing how quickly women and children go through money in a vacation. In my case, I would take say, $500 cash foolishly thinking it was gonna last me a week. Nope. At my lowest I had to take money out of my bank account so much at one point I sank to -$150 dollars. That's right folks, that's a negative mark. I was up to my eyeballs in overdraft fees. And when I went back and I couldn't afford even a cheap $7 haircut at our base BX barbershop, I would get these massive lectured from my ex about how bad o was with money. Even though her own mother of all people complained to me how expensive it got to take her daughters to Disneyland or Las Vegas but she couldn't say no because that's her daughters.

And on this subject, I went to our local gun & RV show this weekend, mostly to peruse the new RVs since I'm looking forward to buying one perhaps next year, and also to pick up some cheap silver bullion. Right at the main county coliseum building they had all sorts of watercraft. A d guess who was looking at those? Yep, people with families. You'd think single guys would be lining up to buy fishing boats and jetskis, but you'd be very wrong. It was mostly white guys with their kids. And the wives were very active in determining what they liked. You can reach the conclusion that they're going to get a massive loan to buy a boat which, in West Texas, there's not that many places to fish, unless you trek all the way to the Gulf or to a couple of reservoirs at the Rio Grande inside New Mexico. Otherwise, that boat is just there piling dust and debt. At some point, some dumbass is going to get divorce papers and that boat is getting repo'ed.

It is from my understanding that she was planning from the beginning to divorce your ass and she is just trying to get that last little bit of servitude from you before she leaves, that and to meet other men to fuck when she’s done with you. I told my ex we wouldn’t be able to do that until we were older and had a hold on our financial situation, she then dumped me. I have a hard time believing that taking her to Jamaica greece, Thailand and wherever else would have kept her around when we got home. Looks like I dodged a bullet!

Vacations that the guy paid for too. You really get to see someone's true character when you travel with them.

My ex had a bipolar nuclear meltdown at the end of our vacation. We were supposed to split expenses on the trip too. Of course, I got stuck with the bill. Kicked her sorry lazy useless ass to the curb after the trip.

My divorce got initiated a few months after the family vacation. Vacations really test emotional connection because you have very little work related distractions and you are supposed to be spending quality time together. It is a great way to test your woman if you are (unfortunately) in a relationship at the moment. I am glad that I took that vacation.

Left my long term girlfriend a month after our tropical vacation. Felt good and the vacation didn’t cost me but a couple hundred bucks so I wasn’t out much.

My old boss took his wife and family to Europe for vacation, 12 days abroad to enjoy their time, when they got back, they didn't speak to each other for 2 months. He was talking about how the bitch ruined every day of the trip. YUCK!

Can confirm. I believe my ex saw it as her last good chance to go on a vacation before she broke up with me. Like, it was so crafted that her attitude towards me was noticeably different on the way 'home' than the way there; she'd got what she wanted, so any attempt at congeniality she saw as a loss.

They always find reasons to be unhappy even on a day-to-day basis so you're forced to do things to appease them. On vacation the number of things they suddenly are unhappy about skyrockets.

On vaca: wife sees lots of hot dudes at the bar she wants to bang, cant' bang cause hubby's there, or bangs and then decides she wants more later. Either way, she's suddenly "not happy."

On vaca: wife wants to pack fifty events into every day with no relaxation time, demands top tier shopping and dining experiences every day ON TOP of everything else without paying a dime for any of it. Destroys all relaxation, eats up all free time without hubby's permission. Rips through all available monies in short time and gets indignant when hubby objects to having no say in anything and can no longer support her "fun." She's "not happy."

On vaca: wife brings 10,000 lbs of bags and refuses to carry them, gets snippy when hubby physically can't lift anything else and asks her to help. Suddenly he's not manly enough for her anymore. She's "not happy."

This and a hundred other things add up to her manufacturing a state of unhappiness for herself and basically deciding to divorce him while on the trip but not pulling the trigger until they're home where she can be back in charge of the house after kicking him out and putting up a bulwark around all remaining resources.
