Centuries ago people died from all manner of diseases, accidents, and basic things we can barely envision today.

After a woman would enter her fertile years, she would become a trade item for familial, political, and economic alliances, so once she became a maiden she was sold off.

If you died at 30, marrying at 15 wouldn’t be that bizarre.

Also unlike in today’s western world where a 14 year old has to understand the complexities of fortnight, you had to be a man pretty early. Death and survival requirements were all around you. You didn’t have time to be a kid. So everyone advanced and matured about reality much faster.

We don’t have to live that kind of life, and since in the modern age it’s not marriage for survival or political deals, children are allowed to stay in childhood longer, so the maturity a 15 year old girl had millennia ago isn’t present, and since there are those men who will exploit that then protections are in place to make sure the greatest number of girls reach mental maturity by 18.

Even despite this there are plenty of places, in the U.S. you can get married at 16. And some countries 14.

I don’t think sleeping around was that big millennia ago. Villages were small, half the people you knew you lived with or were related to, and taking a woman’s virginity had harsh ramifications as you were taking a father’s tradeable property.

Life expectancy was lower, mortality higher. Back then 20 y/o - grown man, 30-40 elderly. Religious reasons, parents wanting to get rid of a girl since mostly men did all the work etc

Men and women used to get married when they reached reproductive age. The exact age varied in different cultures, but in North European peoples such as British or German it's a myth that girls were often married off at 13 or 14. In the middle ages marriage not happening until well into the 20s was quite common.

Most of the reason virgins were sought by high status men was to guarantee the children she bore would be his and his alone. In the high stakes game of inheriting vast tracts o' land, this is the closest thing they could get to insurance that the gal wasn't popping out some other dude's kid to steal everything you worked for.

Now women can just steal your resources with the blessing of the law, as you're not allowed to get a DNA test without her permission which you'll never receive.

Our modern age of adulthood, 18, is a social construct. They didn't have time to worry about that 200 year ago when the average lifespan was shorter and the infant mortality rate was higher. If a woman could start having kids at 14, then she started having kids at 14. Dad could be dead by the time he was 40 from bronchitis or an infection from cutting his finger in the barn.

Women were a resource. They were how you made more people. They didn't have rights, they couldn't own property, they could not vote. Now they can do all of these things and the west is about 20 years from collectively falling apart.

i think in the past rulers and wealthy men kept young 12 -13 yo chicks on ice before bedding them for the purposes of having a good woman who is untainted mentally and physically...

And they were taken care of similar to how you take care of your own children while the man waited for them to "ripen"....i believe this is what is taken out of context with Mohammed and Islam.(Not that i am advocating for their traditions or i want them in our society)

Of course they have other means to get sex while they wait a couple yrs..but i think sex with any woman who has breasts, pubic hair and a menstrual cycle was not frowned upon centuries ago because its natures way of informing a male that she is ready to procreate.

Laws are manmade...unless they are the eternal laws of the universe to which we need no education on because we are made up of the energy of all things that ever exited and its intertwined into our genetic coding, aka our DNA cookies.

This is another important point that often gets overlooked. Realistically, if there were about 60 people in your village, you were closely related to at least 20 of them (and the remainder you were related to as well, but more distantly, i.e. second cousin or farther).

This drastically reduced the number of potential marriage partners available. Out of the 40 remaining people, half were the same gender. Then, you need to take into account that only about 30% at most may have been close enough in age to marry you. That statistically leaves about six suitable women to marry. You might be able to find someone from the one or two neighboring villages adjoining you, but any further and you were unlikely to meet anyone because you didn't know anyone in the village, and very tight-knit communities do not tend to look fondly on anyone outside the mold. That's before you even consider that even brief journeys by horse could take days, so you couldn't realistically go farther than about 20 miles from your village unless you wanted to leave your old life completely behind and start afresh. Today, many commutes to work are longer.

What I'm getting at is, it was a race. Young men had to get married by a certain age, lest they run the risk of running out of potential marriage partners because all the suitable girls had already been married off, or being forced to marry the old spinster or the least desirable woman in the village. And this was before the internet and air travel, so the concept of long-distance relationships or "starting over" in a new city was impossible. It didn't exist. People were marrying young because they were driven by the fear of dying alone.

This is a straight up lies about life expectancy, if you disregard age <5 (Infant mortality) average life expectancy was just as high if not higher and life expectancy are now falling and much faster for women.

i wouldnt even mind them beeing hoes, if i could just turn off the need for women in my brain, but unfortunately its not as easy as pressing a button..

Put it this way... you don't see many 20/30 something year old women popping out a kid and then going to prom and dancing the night away. It was a condition of life. Women died in childbirth, aging increases those complications... so they cranked out kids as soon as possible. It was simply the only for our species to survive.

At the same time teenage boys were starting careers, leading men and being actual young adult. It turns out your basically an adult when your genitals turn on, just like every other ani.al in the animal kingdom.

The infantilization of our youth into their 20s now is absurd, and why we're producing generation after generation of adult child.
