Let me know what your thoughts are.
One of the harshest but most important red pills: The myth of free speech:
Of all the red pills on the true nature of society the abject myth of free thinking and free speech ought to be one of the hardest to swallow. But it is just as important to swallow as it is hard to.
This is especially true with regards to the internet and online news media.
How cheap and free communication incentivized ideological compartmentalization and the onslaught of censorship:
For the vast majority of history curating, documenting and sharing information came at a significant cost (at the expense of both time and money). Carving on rocks, inking canvas and printing books took a significant amount of time and money. While this was in no way ideal, it limited the curation of new ideas to a very small minority (mainly scholars, religious leaders, rulers, etc.)
Things looked a lot more ideal in the 1600-1700s when the printing press was gaining popularity and albeit more people could access literature, curating and documenting new ideas came at a cost. This cost however, acted as a barrier to entry that broadly ensured that only those who really thought it to be worth their time would create and spread information.
With the advent of the internet however, it made the cost of curating and documenting information negligible to the point where even those who could barely afford to have a roof over their head could log onto a public computer and share ideas with billions of internet users.
This was revolutionary, because it meant that for the first time in history, the sharing and consumption of ideas was truly free and accessible.
Or was it?
Big tech is a terrible big brother:
Recently the MGTOW subreddit was quarantined. In response to this I set up a backup sub plainly demanding that free speech be respected. Within hours of being up and accumulating nearly 600 members, reddit took down the subreddit and suspended my account (which I have now been allowed to access after nearly a week).
On looking into it I found that hoards of internet users who know fvckall about mgtow were reporting the handful of posts that I had up. The posts were being reported for hate speech, inciting violence, etc.
Here's the kicker; The new subreddit that was set up, had no offensive posts, no hate speech, no radical ideas, literally nothing.
I had a Fredreic Nietzsche quote be reported multiple times for inciting violence. You get the idea. All false reports.
Obviously these hundreds of false reports (and yes, they were all false, because there wasn't a single post that was even remotely offensive) set of an alarm and got the subreddit automatically removed.
So what's my point?
Big tech created a platform for the exchange of ideas at no cost. It is obvious that without any barrier to entry anyone and everyone can share ideas, and and idea can be endlessly criticized, compartmentalized, exaggerated and made extreme. They obviously predicted this, but somehow began using this as an excuse to police the internet and the ideas shared on it.
As if that weren't bad enough their policing sucks. They use dumb algorithms that cannot identify false reports from real ones and as a precautionary measure leave heavily biased humans to take a final call. That's a recipe for disaster.
It is obvious that (1) the internet doesn't allow free speech, and (2) big tech cannot police it properly and in a truly unbiased manner.
Until big tech either stops their godawful policing or admits their political bias (on both sides of the political spectrum depending on which network you look at) it is pointless to believe the myth of free speech on the internet.
For anyone interested, I run a mgtow discord with nearly 300 members. Link pinned to the top of my profile u/alphaspath
Cheers. Good day.
