It's traditional in Japan to celebrate Christmas with a cake.

After December 25th no one wants these cakes anymore and they are deeply discounted or just thrown away. Which is also why single Japanese woman over 25 are also referred to as a Christmas Cakes.

To talk about 五行 is difficult when the concept is not something others can easily understood.

Man, you don't want modern Chinese wisdom on anything. "Chinese wisdom" is a contradiction in terms unless you're talking about Hong Kong and Taiwan. Mainlanders of both genders are fucking crazy for the most part.

When childhood mortality was high, I could understand this mentality. But China is overpopulated, and most people in middle/upper income countries have 1-2 kids max per woman. A 27-35 year old woman still has enough time to pump out 1-2 kids.

So I think this is an outdated cultural meme.

I do think these women have themselves to blame on some level. There is an oversupply of men in China due to the 1 child policy, and as a result women have become much fussier and demanding. I'm sure a lot of these leftover women had options, they just were holding out for the BBD (bigger, better deal). Now they have far less to offer compared to when they were probably turning men down.

I wouldn't say lifting is particularly earthly. Push-ups yeah, lifting wasn't the exercise of the armies of old nor is it now. Otherwise good post, it like the use of Chinese adages. However it would seem strange for the Chinese to say that 'metal sweats water' because even ancients understood that didn't happen.
