I think there is something to this, women definitely love competition. Having multiple "girlfriends" is a great way to stop any one from feeling better than you and looking down on you. I've been there. Lived with a wife and a gf for two years.

It takes upper level management skills. Piss one off, they are both mad at you. Never underestimate their bond. The sisterhood force is strong.
