I was chatting with a woman on that site (I know, I know) and she was bitching about her mother, who visited with her last weekend. She was also bitching about babysitting her mom's dog.

--------

Me: So she stays like the whole weekend instead of just a few hours?

Her: It’s my mom and she’s a widow and lives alone with her dog. I get frustrated when her visiting causes me double to work. But I used to not ask her to do things. Now I do. And i wouldnt want my dog to go to a kennel. It’s a hassle, but Emma is super sweet and she would have a really really hard time. It’s the least I can do for my mom. Let her have a nice trip and not worry.

Also we are all she has- her kids.....and her dog. She could be a lot worse. She’s starting to get some medical issues too so we have that to worry about too

Me: Ok makes sense, it seems like she's lonely. What kind of things do you ask her to do? How does her visiting make you do double the work?

Her: Just minor stuff like setting the table or putting a new garbage can bag when i take out the garbage. Nothing big. But it helps me feel like I’m not doing everything. Meals are always more elaborate. She has a tendency to leave garbage on tables or counters instead of throwing it away. I have to take the dog out at night. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it feels like it is when i spend the whole weekend working on the house and the yard, going to the gym, laundry, my German lessons, practicing piano, and then cleaning up after her.

This is an educated woman, with a degree, who has a professional job. Seems a bit petty and arrogant. It's almost like she's substituting her mom for a husband and bitching about ridiculous nonsense. That said, her mom does seems like a pain in the ass in some ways. They say that you get involved in a relationship, you have to deal with her whole family.

Anyone her willing to date her? I am guessing this is pretty typical behavior?
