My Middletown story (and it kinda brings me full-circle). Old Dude here. Graduated high school in 1987, went off to college, but was feeling very uninspired. Nothing really 'clicked'. I somehow missed all those early college experiences (drinking, partying, lots of sex). This is long ago, before the Internet, before MGTOW. I just felt lost and unsure.

In the summer of 1989, the film Dead Poets Society was released. I loved it immediately. If you haven't seen it, a major theme is motivating young men to make their lives extraordinary. "Boys, you must strive to find your own voice. Because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are to find it at all. Thoreau said, 'Most men lead lives of quiet desperation.' Don't be resigned to that. Break out!"

I left the theater almost on fire with inspiration. For me, it was the right message at the right time. The first thing I did was pack some camping gear on my bike, and head south from New England. Where to? Not sure, really. Just wanted to GET OUT. Without GPS and Google Earth, I was navigating with a compass and paper maps. I stayed in camp grounds and often arrived so exhausted from a day's ride that I could barely move. I figured out how to cook around a fire, how to stay dry in a tent in a storm, how to fix my bike, how to navigate through the world (literally and figuratively). Thinking back, it was an amazing solo adventure.

Small repairs kept my bike going, but it finally broke down in -- Middletown, Delaware. I could have gone on, I suppose. But it felt like the right time to stop.

There's a small airport north of the town. A friendly man who worked there offered to use his company's shipping facilities to ship my bike and belongings back home for me. He then made the off-hand remark that Dead Poets Society had been filmed in Middletown. A wonderful coincidence.

Within months, I transferred to another college on the other end of the country where I found much more inspiration, and a real thirst for life. I was 19, and it was the most transformative time in my life. No one used the term MGTOW back then. And I can see that, as I got older, I lost some of that MGTOW mojo. And, losing that edge hurt me. The cruelty of Family Court is what jarred me back into MGTOW. I've spent a few years now getting back that mojo. I look back to when I was in 19, back to the basics, back to the original inspiration, back to Middletown.

Knowing that Robin Williams killed himself possibly because of cruel Family Court order, this scene from the movie is especially touching (Robin's character breaks down after learning that one of his students killed himself).

Oh man, I've driven through Middletown many times.

Last time, there was some kind of weather thing happening, rain and small whirlwinds that caused a ton of small rainbows in every direction.

Was beautiful.
