All the comments telling this man to talk to a lawyer. The paperwork for detailing your assets during a divorce doesn't even mention cryptocurrency yet. No doubt it will soon, once the wahmens realize what they've been missing out on. I did not divulge my crypto assets during my divorce for a couple of reasons.

  • The paperwork didn't ask

  • My wife didn't know

It's a brave new world men. Monero is a good choice. Dash is also a good choice.

Thing is monero is a risky crypto because the value could just drop off a cliff and I’m pretty sure a way has been found to trace it. He should sell the bitcoin then buy it back making a new crypto address.

Bitcoin is the reserve currency. I agree. Monero or Dash are where you store when you want to intentionally hide. Both have survived multiple cliff dives over the years and are still accepted by the majority of exchanges. Would I hold monero or dash long term? Not really, but if I were intentionally trying to hide, bitcoin would not be where I chose to do it.

the reason Monero is too sensitive is its algorithm that makes it the best choice for hacker to force their hacked victims to mine it for them ... Nonetheless, the best approach is to convert bitcoin from ur wallet to Monero then from Monero to bitcoin in another wallet. Which will make it impossible for anyone who is aware of your first wallet to trace it to the second (considering that most primary wallets are attacked to ur credit card as most exchange platforms where you buy bitcoin do)

Precious metals, a safe place to keep them, and a "documented gambling problem".

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I like that gambling thing :D

I've used it with two divorces. My first ex-wife testified in my second divorce hearing about my "gambling addiction". The trick is you have to actually go to GA meetings for a while then show up to random meetings every few months. Eventually you can skip the meetings until you "need" them again. That establishes your alibi for the missing money. Take that money to your local coin shop and buy all the precious metals you can with cash. Always less than $10,000 USD per week and always choose 4-5 different shops to buy from. Never buy from the same shop 2 weeks in a row. Any more money than that is reported to the IRS here in the US. Always use cash.

GRIN, Beam, and BitGRIN are interesting Mimblewimble privacy coins. I like GRIN. I like that the blockchain is light due to not storing addresses in the blockchain. It essentially maintains a current state of UTXOs.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I like mimbilewimble as a side chain technology, my guess is when Tari is mixed with monero as a sidechain (to help scalability ) will be unstoppable

[–]Stormjib0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Interesting. Where do you stay up to date on what Tari project is doing?

Is there any way to prove that bitcoin ever existed or that you're the owner?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you've transferred bitcoin to a public trading exchange, then it's definitely tied to your name while residing on the exchange. When you withdraw the funds to your bitcoin wallet, your wallet will automatically generate a new public address. So the address you originally transferred from your wallet to the exchange will be different from the one that was used to withdraw. Both of those addresses are then suspect. Is it possible to track? Not difficult I suspect to prove in court. Which I believe is why he decided to transfer to a more secure currency like monero.

[–]yrevaw0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Basically no. They would need to know how to log into your coinbase or whatever youre using or they would need to prove that you're the owner of a specific public key. Coinbase uses KYC/AML, but they don't really give out users information.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it's easily trackable as it's a transparent ledger , that's why you should use monero

[–]arapaima123450 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What is the difference that makes monero safer than any other crypto?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's a private chain nobody can know what wallet owns what or which wallet sent what amount to which wallet , basically it's like a black hole compared to bitcoin

[–]arapaima123450 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Good thank you. Is there any way it can be cracked? The data must be stored somehow and if it is stored, then it can be legally demanded or stolen. Or not?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, not sure what you mean in the second question, you store it like you store Bitcoin or any other crypto currency, hardware wallet or restore words in a safe
