Wondering if anyone can relate to this. If I try to imagine myself getting married, and going through a wedding, I can't help but feel a sense of overwhelming dread. Going to the altar to get married seems somewhat akin to ascending the gallows, as far as I'm concerned.

I mean, I suppose I could meet a unicorn, and my feelings might change. But for one thing, I had to watch my father give his absolute train wreck of a speech at my brother's wedding. In it, he encouraged my brother & his wife to have kids (they don't want kids, how about respecting their decision? We don't need your advice you old fool.) Secondly, he talked about how marriage is good in his view, bla, bla, bla. I only realised later, but that second part was no doubt directed at me. He's probably sensed that I'm MGTOW, and he's trying to talk me around. Again, we don't your advice old man.

What is a wedding, really? Most people would say that it's a celebration of a love story. But it's function is quite different in my view. A wedding is basically a public spectacle designed to shame the male, in particular, into fulfilling his role as a servant of the female. Everyone is watching son, so you'd better get in the harness and stay in the harness.

Hence, I really don't envy these men who have to go through the whole ordeal of a wedding. My life is simple as it is. Even if I had a relationship, I don't see what business it would be of anyone else. Why couldn't my gf and I just get on with life, without the need for some grand public event? There are plenty of reasons of course: 1) creating a legal contract to act as a financial parachute for the female, should she decide to leave. 2) general consumerism. 3) because women are drunk on the whole fairy tale concept that society pours down their throats constantly. 4) amplifying the social pressure on the male, particularly, to be a loyal beta provider for the female, regardless of what she does.
