Sad but true. ALL billionaire women 'received' their money via divorce, and inheritance. Not a single one of them worked themselves to death to earn that title.

Correct. You do make a point. I'll have to look up those 16.9% billionaire women, and see how they achieved their wealth. I would suspect that receiving alimony is not considered an inheritance. As well as having billionaire divorced men paying child support to their ex. But that is just speculation from my part.

JK Rowling, Oprah Winfrey, Meg Whitman are a few women I can think of off the top of my head that are billionaires in their own right.
To be fair, a significant percentage of male billionaires also inherited their fortunes. A lot of billionaire families are many generations in the making.
I don’t think it’s irrelevant to point out that it was just a little over a hundred years ago that women were given the right in all states of the US to own their own property. And until 1974, if a single, divorced, or widowed woman applied for any kind of credit, she was required to have a male co-signer, regardless of her income. The laws allowed creditors and financial institutions to reduce a woman’s income on her application by up to 50%, on the chance that she might have children and decide to quit her job to raise them.
There’s no doubt that even now men hold most of the wealth. But women haven’t always had the same financial rights and freedoms they have now. And certainly they haven’t had the same ones men have.

I don’t think it’s irrelevant to the comment I made directly above it. Which was, when you’re discussing billionaires, many of them are “family fortunes”, literally generation after generation of a family accumulating and passing down wealth for decades, and yes, even centuries. So how is it not relevant to acknowledge that not only could women not own property just over a century ago, but any property or wealth a married woman inherited from her family became her husband’s? And even though the laws changed a century ago, it doesn’t necessarily follow that common practice did. Women who did inherit wealth or property would’ve had less opportunity and fewer skills to build their inheritance into something larger. There were still jobs they couldn’t have. Fewer were educated. They couldn’t get loans to start or expand their own businesses or buy their own property. It’s only been a few generations since we were pretty much expected to get married, stay home, and raise kids.
I do agree that it’s not relevant when you’re talking about people who become self-made billionaires today. Those who started from nothing. The playing field is much more equal now in terms of opportunity, but even that’s a fairly recent development, relatively speaking.

It is technically an investment, but an investment often carries some risk of failure to return, or loss of your invested assets.
In this case, I can't really see an risk of losing her assets... so it's more like an arbitrage, if you know what that means. And where there's lots of arbitrage investment, it's usually a broken market ;)

The financialindependence reddit will BAN you or delete your comment if you simply point out the 'I' in Independence means one person, thus the 'I'm set to retire at 50 with my loving stay at home wife' people are NOT set to retire....they only are if the whamen wants to keep them around.... plus no serous illeness and investments go as planned...etc.... OBVIOUSLY the single largest setback to most men financially is divorce. ***You should be able to discuss that and ways to mitigate that risk in that sub!!!!!!!!!!!!
