No...the tech is really old...you'll just laugh at it. But back in '83, when I was a 17 yr old high school kid taking computer science (we were still using punch cards)...it was cutting edge. We only heard about modems from our math teachers...and the "blazing" 2400 baud rate (the "norm" was 1200 baud)

It's really dated and might not hold your attention, but I remember it being kinda neat. We're talking very early BBS days, and he accidently dials into a military computer and almost starts a nuclear war. Not plausible at all today, but back then it seemed like it might be. So culturally it had its place.

when i was young, i had a friend with access to "2600/TAP" publications... he would pohotocopy them and give me a copy. eh, couple years in highschool/couple after... it fueled my interest in electronics. back then? ANY strategy to try to make free payphone calls we would tryout, lol... i learned how to pick desk locks off those papers...etc etc
basically kid stuff, bored and half bright? you know... man, my frioends thought i was james bond, ha ha... i had a cheap used small regular telephone? it had 2 alligator clips... no cells back then, we could make phone calls from any alley. home made "test set"...
*shrugs* we didnt have internet back then, we didnt have smart phones, you know? we made an HBO-box thing... we made a coupel different "free phone calls" things... kid stuff.

today? a "hacker" is a computer bug... or, someonewho does penetration testing for IT... back in the day? the ORIGINAL "hacker" was just a bright person interested in "stuff". The kind of person who in the 60s would open up a stop-light control box and learn how to set the timer the way THEY wanted the light to be timed, LOL... the manifesto was? learn everything, get into everything, but steal nothing... except fun.
these guys all got into the original analog PHONE SYSTEM a a fun hobby,to make free calls and such... they were "phone phreaks", IE... "phreaks". These were your original "hackers", and they didnt hurt anything or steal stuff...
we tended to become computer programmers in the 80s and 90s... and a lot of us ended up being into HAM radio and electronics as hobbies (smile)
back in the old days? i had a 1200 baud modem in my bedroom as a kid, and there was no internet yet? it freaked my friends out i would call up BBS numbers and get stuff off the phone lines, LMAO.
you have all heard of "pirates bay"?? it was originallyjust a phone number BBS in california bay area, and youcould download copies of appleII computer games... yes virginia, i used to make free california phone calls from my bedroom, accessing the ORIGINAL "pirates bay" which is of course the ORIGINAL "torrent", but we didnt call it that back then.
one of the legendary "computer game crackers" was a high ranking elite member of "pirates bay BBS" by the name of... "captain midnight". You can look HIM up on wikipedia? thats the guy that interrupted HBO with his own transmission, LMAO... when i saw that on TV? i was jumpkingup and down "i know him!! how cool!!" (i had his copes of cracked games in high school)
ah... the good old days...

Wow that's some cool old school Hacking, I didn't get the pleasure of experiencing BBS my family could only afford our first Desktop back around 1999, I briefly dabbled in Hacking for a few months from some guy named "P0rtWolf" if I remember his name correctly but I freaked out after the 911 attacks and Patriot Act came about (I figured I would get nabbed for Hacking into a system and sent to Prison under Terrorism) so i left it alone and I'm wishing I had some Hacking skills these days. By any chance did you bother to save some Screen Caps of your favourite Internet WebSites back in those days? It would be awesome if I knew someone that archived the ancient internet.

just keep in mind? "hacking" and "being a hacker" ORIGINALLY had a different meaning... it just meant that you were into figuring things out, being creative, sort of like showing off? It didnt originally have anything to do with "breaking into things" or "stealing stuff" like it means today...
the original first "hackers"?? were the members of the MIT railroad model club... the wiring system? for all thelights and track switches? was so intense and complicated? it was like "can you HACK it?" (can you do it?) and if you COULD get into it, and figure out all the wiring harnesses, and get into it nd add stuff to it? you were a... "hacker".
somehow, those guys? were good at the original computer programming... and the "hacker" name stuck as they became known for being the original good computer programmers...
