This was always one part of the story that I didn't get.

Mary and Joseph were Jews and Jews back in those times do NOT break traditions and laws of the religion. One major rule being when married, the new couple consummates the marriage ( To complete (a marriage) with the first act of sexual intercourse after the ceremony).

So that means Mary was not a virgin, unless they both made major social fuck-ups and nobody ever called them out on it.

I find it highly unlikely Mary was a virgin.
