To begin, my formatting is going to suck. I'm writing this on my phone. If that bother you, stop reading here. I will tie all of this into red pill thinking.

Car sales. Being in sales has forced me to understand frame to a pretty absurd degree. If you are not in my frame, I have an uphill battle, and need to get you in it. Or, I risk losing the deal. The longer I've done it, the more I've seen that price, simply DOESN'T matter. All that matters is, are you in my frame, or not?

Let's start this post. I got in sales after the military. I was a combat medic paratrooper for six years, and was eventually hurt, almost dying in the process. I broke my hip in three places and fucked my back all sorts of up. I got out after that, six years in, honorable discharge. I end up trying to work construction, but can barely get out of bed the next morning almost everyday. The pain was just too much. So, I started looking around at things I could do as a career, and was drawn to the world of sales.

The first job I got selling cars, I failed at. This is important to note. I won't lie, the thought crossed my mind several times to just give up on the idea of sales. I was still new, and didn't know that most successful salesman have failed at some point, and either lost a job or quit. What separates the guys on top from the rest, is that we don't give up. We may think about it, but that's it. So, when I post that job, I moped around for a couple days, and without trp, may have just given up. I took advice here to not give up, and actually pursue my dream of being financially well off. So, I threw my suit and tie back on, and started beating feet on the pavement to every dealership I knew. I ended up getting hired at the largest auto group in my state, who put me through a much needed three month training program. Now, I am generally in the top 3-5 salesman, and I say salesMAN, because women almost always fall in with the rest and are average. Rarely are they in the top. They just don't work the hours needed to be in the top. Anyways, I am always in the top five, and often in the top three. There are two guys where I work that have done it for decades now and have a massive client base built. I get close, but haven't passed them yet. I went from making 40-50k a year in the military and in construction, to well over six figures, simply selling cars. My entire outlook on life has now changed, and I am a much happier person all around. If you are stuck at a dead end job, I promise you, if you have the tenacity and work ethic, you could be successful doing what I do as well.

As far as the reputation people have in the industry, I could care less. Those people who give car salesman bad names, never last anyways. Good car salesman are honest, and should basically just take down what you told them, and match it up with their inventory. If you are a lying piece of shit, say bye to any referral business. Which, just so happens to be what makes the difference between average and below car salesman, to the top and above average. So, your first few years, you will be working about 50-60+ hours a week. If you don't, someone else will, and they will be on top. It is all a numbers game. If I talk to 10 people, I will write up 3-4. If I write up 3-4 people, I'll sell one. So, in order to be a 20+ unit a month car salesman, I need to talk to several hundred people in a month. This is why working long hours is important. If I only talk to 100 or less, I will just be average, and sell 7-10 cars per month. You need to be over 20 to make six figures. I know people making over a quarter million a year selling cars. They have a gift, but still need to work their asses off. Eventually, you can get to the point of working off appointment only and only show up to work for said appointments. I work with an older guy who does this. He's sold cars for decades now, and only comes in when he has people asking to buy a car. Still, he's here every other day at the minimum.

Changing the subject. I work with a lot of people day in and out. There is a marked difference when a guy comes in and buys a car right away because he wants it, and the guy who needs to go home and talk it over with the wife. A lot of times they will say stuff like, I need to run this past the boss at home. The guys who often say that are out of shape, and have the frame of a scared puppy. Even when they are the ones making all the money, and she just sits at home getting fatter while he works. Never, are the people who say this appearing to be happy, or enjoying life at all. The guys who come in with their wives, but don't look for their approval, are always happier personally, and as a couple. You can tell with the, need to ask the wife crowd, the natural order has been flipped on its head, and they are suffering the consequences of doing so. Usually this is by lowered respect for the husband, and the woman trying to lead without a clue of how to actually do so. So, they end up making stupid financial decisions, or not getting anything close to what they want, even when it will be their car, and the wife will almost never drive it. I see so many shit tests from people's wives and girlfriends in this scenario it isn't funny. When the guy basically tells the wife or girlfriend to fuck off, I make all the money and this is what I want, they visibly become turned on, and you can tell that the man has increased the amount of respect given to him. They literally start to squirm in their chair, bite their lips, or stare at them with fuck me now eyes. She knows that when it comes to money and spending, she doesn't get to dictate how he spends it, and he isn't going to put up with her shit. So, shit test passed. Many, many guys fail at this. They just want to see if you will tell them no on something that big. If you're a pushover with a big purchase, she is going to lose almost all respect for you instantaneously. If you tell her no on a big purchase, and that you are the one buying the vehicle so she needs to stay out of it, she will gain massive respect for you. I can't believe how many otherwise intelligent men, fuck this up. If you want a car, buy it. She isn't going to approve anyways, simply on the grounds of how perfect of a shit test she knows she can throw in this situation. I've never seen a wife or girlfriend just agree. They always have something to say or complain about.

Now, I do enjoy selling women cars because of terrible they are at negotiating. If they are smart, they will bring a guy to do that for them. I can get you a good deal, but first and foremost, I'm going to make my money. It is your job to do the research, know what your trade is worth, and what the car you are buying should be sold for. Women will almost never do their research on these topics. They either end up over paying, or coming up with a number so absurdly low I won't even entertain it with a counter offer. I've had some come on my lot, and offer many, many thousands under what a car is worth. When I ask what that number is based on, or if they saw it valued at that on KBB or another lot, the answer is always the same. It's just what they want to pay, and are essentially blurting out meaningless numbers based on nothing. They are terrible at negotiating, I believe, because it doesn't come natural to them and any confrontation is scary. With guys, I'll often get along great on the test drive, but as soon as we sit down with numbers, it's on. He knows getting along with me isn't going to get him a good deal, he will basically have to fight me and the manager to get the price lowered. Which, we will usually do.

I'd love to answer any questions on working in sales, or specifically auto sales. It has changed my life. Not iust in making more money, but learning the steps to making the money in the first place. You have to stick to it, welcome failure as a point of learning. Just make sure if you do fail, you learn from it, then move on. If I got pissed off over every close deal I've lost, I wouldn't be where I am. I let it go, and get on to the next one with a huge fucking smile on my face.
