It gets better. The heroine of that series has to be routinely saved from whoever the villain du jour happens to be by her husband, a tall, dark and handsome egyptologist.

She was also militantly faithful to him, supported him wholeheartedly in his work when she wasn't trying (and failing) to be a detective, and was in general a unicorn if you look past the girl-power smokescreen.

IIRC, that passage in particular was pretty ironic, having to do with a man who either wouldn't do something the heroine wanted because it was blatantly stupid or else because he was physically unable to do so, having been worked to exhaustion or concussed.

Anyhow, a case of a half-decent writer's words being twisted horribly and laughably.
