Signup on Meet up and join an outdoors group, join a craft group, join fetlife and attend some kinky parties, volunteer at a retirement home. Just go live OP. You never get back yesterday, go live.

I'm downloading the app now to see if it's active in my area. Thanks for the advice.

Dont play video games if you're depressed. Join clubs, go out. Martial arts is great.
[–]TaiChiWeeWee3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
As the views climb and the comments stay the same, I'm beginning to worry there is not a simple solution.
[–]dirtysanch8 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Of course there isn't a simple solution. I would recommend reading two books, that hopefully may give you some perspective as to the root of your problem. Tribe by Sebastian Junger & The Way of Men by Jack Donovan. Finding a solid group of mates that stay reliably in touch can be difficult. Please DM me if you wanna talk further man.

You can play video games just dont overdo it
[–]TaiChiWeeWee0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I know that video games are not, as Bobby Buchet's mother would put it, the devil.

What do you like to do?
I mean hobbies. Any passions?
Go do those. Join groups of people who go do those things.
Friendship usually includes a shared bond.
I wrote this list of my hobbies for another post. Pick one that appeals to you and go do it. If nothing else, it'll get you off your couch and into the world.
That's the first step.
Car collecting, Hiking, Road Biking, Guitar/drums, Drone flying, Motorcycle collecting, Motocross/enduro, Scuba, Rec. Pilot, Metal fab/welding, Beermaking, Shooting/ gunsmithing, Archery, Snowboarding, Snowshoeing, Hunting, Fishing, Track Days, Glamping, Navigational Rally racing, Surfing, 3 gun, SUP, Rock Climbing, Music Festivals, Tattooing, Road Trips, Wearing womens' clothes, Primitive wilderness camping, Drag racing, Jetski, Home bartending/whiskey club, Backcountry snowmobiling, Mountainclimbing, Mountainbiking, Downhill mountainbiking, Home mechanic, Woodworking, Millwright/machining, Painting, BDSM, Dog training, Riding Quads (fourwheelers, not paralyzed people), Sub training, Riding horses, Riding women, Ride on lawnmower, Being a dick on the internet.

Me and you would get along. Track day on ze bikes?
[–]TaiChiWeeWee1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I guess the hard part is actually finding like minded people who enjoy the same activities as you do. I usually get one or the other.
I totally understand what you mean though.
[–]0signal03 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Something I've noticed about you Americans is that you're quick to call everybody you hang out with "friends". Real friendship, the kind of people who don't stab you in the back or sleep with your girlfriend, take time to find and develop. It's somehow a test of your patience and maturity.
There is also a difference between being alone and being lonely. Men are meant to thrive in solitude.
[–]BullshittingNonsense0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
That's what I think too. Sometimes I think I'm a loser because I maybe have a couple friends, not even that close, but then I realize when most people talk about their friends, they literally just mean acquaintances.
If you use that definition, you have more friends than you think.
[–]0signal0 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
you have more friends than you think.
You actually have less. A man with a certain degree of self-respect is as picky with his friends as he is with the women he dates.
[–]BullshittingNonsense0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Did you read what I said? I'm using the loose definition
I understand what you mean about the difference between being alone and being lonely. I'm usually lonely even when I'm with people because I don't feel like I can connect with them on a level greater than "we are both here now".

I found joining an outdoor group led me to meet a group of like minded and intelligent people. It was a total game changer. It's not the "simple solution" though as it requires turning up to events consistently, making long journeys, and of course intra-group politics and friction. Nonetheless, if I could go back 2 years and tell myself one thing that would help massively, it would be to join those clubs.
I will definitely try to find a similar club in my area. We've got lots of local wilderness to explore.

I've made lots of good friends through the gym and in college parties.
[–]TaiChiWeeWee6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I've just moved to a "real" gym. I was going to planet fatness, so now I'm still new to everyone else. I also don't go out of my way to talk to anyone there. I do my sets and leave.
I never talked to anyone in class so I never really got invited to parties.
It saddens me that even though you're more social you have the same problem.
First two months in the gym, I didn't talk to anyone because I was so focused on making some gains. One day I asked someone why he did drop sets and he was the coolest guy ever. We hit the gym together quite often these days. Now I know half the gym without even trying to socialize. It just happened.
I talk with everyone in my class, but I never hang out with any of them outside of the classroom. I am living in the dorms, so that helped a lot meeting people.
I mean, I struggled a lot when I was younger with me feeling lonely even though I was always a social person. There were some nights that I would cry in my room at the end of the day. Even after returning from a fuck, or a night out, or a party. I didn't even know why I was so sad.
I was a fucking wuss, but I am still like that. The difference is that I have accepted it. I just don't pay attention to it. We move forward whichever burden we carry.
Wish you the best.
I keep telling myself that I should learn to cope with just being alone and embrace it. However, I keep craving social interaction, and then a deeper connection the those around me. I may just have to learn to deal with it by burying myself in hobbies and things that I enjoy on my own. Just haven't figured that part out yet.

Maybe stop thinking it has to be done in a red pill fashion and just be friendly with people without thinking about Alphas betas and assuming red pill applies to every thing. God no wonder so many of you are depressed you're all obsessed with analysing and codifying everything and not actually experiencing things
[–]TaiChiWeeWee0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Not everyone understands the world as you do. Not everyone has the same paradigm as you.
I've lurked here for a while and what I've noticed is so many of you are obsessed to the point where you analyse every single aspect of your life to see if it's red pill or not...that's why I'm not surprised half of you are lonely
[–]TaiChiWeeWee0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I don't really do that. Whether or not people are "red pill" or otherwise doesn't really matter to me. What I meant in my post by saying I wanted to do things in a "red pill fashion" is that I wanted the honest truth, not sugarcoated metaphors or kind sayings. I don't want sympathy. I just want what each person here considers to be the truth. I don't need a codex of what activities are hyper-masculine vs any other nonsense. I just wanted honesty without any of the usual trappings and minutiae that people typically get lost in.
TL/DR I'm not lonely because I occasionally browse a subreddit.
Why not talk to a counsellor or therapist
[–]TaiChiWeeWee0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'm skeptic at this point because of past experiences with them. I have to go to one again soon though.
[–]ProMathlete0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Look man, do what you gotta do but don't do it because of a cuck called Jeff. He's probably just projecting.
It's more along the lines of I'll eventually have to go so I can get my prescription renewed
