I have a son. We have a great relationship- and did all through his childhood.

But honestly - the whole legacy thing? WTF. It's not like my last name is Beethoven or Hemingway.

And just because you have a child doesn't mean your child will lead a life you'd want to consider a legacy. Every serial killer and mass murderer is a legacy of their parents.

I didn’t want kids back when I was a kid. I’ve never wavered on that. I still don’t want kids. I don’t hate them. In fact I’m the fun uncle who always plays with my nieces and nephews.

For me kids are like horses. I don’t hate them and I can understand why some people have them but I don’t want one living in my house for 18 years.

The world's full as it is. And we have a huge climate/energy/refugee crisis coming in the future. My guess it's ~50 years away. I don't want my kids to grow up in such a world.

I've never wanted kids, even as a kid myself. People would tell me I'd change my mind, that I'd meet the "right girl" and she would want kids and I'd do that, could never work out why I'd just do what a woman wanted of me. Have never changed my mind and my parents have finally accepted that fact.

My family lineage is prone to anxiety disorders. With what I’m experiencing internally I wouldn’t want my kid to face on top of already dealing with this cold world. Everything dies, screw legacy.

I want to have kids, not with a woman thou. I really want to see artificial wombs soon.

I got my vasectomy already but If I saw a way to have a boy without a woman gene in him, I'd do it right away.

After 8 generations, your offspring will have 1 / 256 genetics contributed by you (and continue to dwindle in subsequent generations.) They will also have zero clue who you were or what you believed in.

Children do not leave a legacy. The only reason to have children is because you believe they will make you happier in your own lifetime. Anything else is irrational. Good luck finding a woman who will be helpful in the task of raising them, and if you want to put them in daycare just don't bother.

You want a legacy, go prove a revolutionary scientific theory. 99.99% of people who have ever lived are completely forgotten, and you're probably not an exception.

Very risky in today's day and age, especially in the West. The moment you have a child, that child is the property of the state and you are a slave. If the mother of said child wants custody, more than likely the state will grant her custody while forcing you to give up half your income for 18 years at the threat of a gun.

Having said that, I still want to have children some day, it's something I've always wanted to do. Surrogacy and buying an egg is possible, no matter how expensive you think it is, still cheaper than 50% of your income for 18 years.

Never cared for kids, no real point in having them anyway. Who cares what happes to your legacy you not going to be around any way, live your life for yourself not how society tells you to live.
