No one that raves about bitcoin and tells me that I need to start investing in crypto-currencies has ever been able to explain its purpose to me, other than to trade on the black market. Seriously, the people that invest in this shit cannot even explain it when you ask them. If you think that a fiat currency is bad because it isn't backed by anything (besides the full faith and credit of the most powerful entity in the history of humanity), then what the fuck makes this crypto-currency whose value fluctuates wildly and is controlled by who "mines" it a good thing? It's nothing but a novelty and a bubble. Wrap this around your head: bitcoin is worthless because no one is obligated to accept it as payment AND it has zero intrinsic value. People have invested in completely worthless things many times in human history, and they will do so again in the future. Read about the Dutch tulip bubble. That shit will blow your mind.

Maybe. But I doubt it. They can be made illegal and, yes, that would drastically hurt their value.

They would still be used on the black market, however. But major investors now would not see the kind of returns you speak of.

Just a thought ... but if that happened maybe the government wouldn't be so wrecked, and there would be far less incentive for a decentralized currency. Meanwhile, yes, to some extent those (women) without means to earn capital would need provider men a lot more.

You'd also need divorce laws to change such that women can't have half of a man's stuff also.

These two things happening (less handouts, more reasonable divorce laws) and yes, things could change dramatically to the degree which the laws change.

With that level of collapse just getting power and an internet connection will be hard for all not connected with the security forces. Crypto currency servers maybe taken off line to conserve power and resources. All this makes crypto-currency hard to access and will be no less reliable than Fiat currency.

Also crypto-currency is only different from government currency only because like gold there is a finite amount of it. Like gold you can't eat it, drink it or burn it for fuel. Its only use is as medium of exchange. Once it stops flowing or trust erodes its done just like fiat currency.

Society is due for a reset as society continues to break down. It won't get to mad max levels, it will likely landing on some sort of charismatic savior dictator military backed system with democratic/republic trappings. Aka Putin's Russia on various scales as mega-nation states break up, you might eve see the rise of city states

No bitcoin is not a pyramid scheme. You can invest in it without ever trying to "convince" anyone and it doesn't need a constant stream of new "suckers" to maintain or even increase in value.
