So the red Queen. It’s a highly technical book on biology and human nature. It’s written by an academic, so it lacks a manosphere tone, which isn’t so bad if you’re into a more scientific understanding of the redpill. For the most part, this book covers a lot of what many of us already know about the red pill. It’s mostly just a confirmation of red pill principles from an evolutionary biology perspective.

The author tries to answer the question of why do animals/humans have sex? Why are there only two sexes, and not say 7 or just 1? How did we evolve to have the preferences that we do for our mates? What is going on at the cellular level of sex? What are the evolved sexual strategies in nature?

The book is chalk full of answers from an evolutionary biology perspective. It starts with the premise of the red queen: that at the smallest level, genes are competing to be included in the next generation, because that is the only way to survive. They aren’t necessarily conscious actors striving to be included in the next generation. Rather the genes that are selected over others are simply superior because they got to the next generation. The author goes on to give examples of genes that cheat in order to get to the next generation by sabotaging other genes. It’s very interesting stuff.

But it really comes down to this: if your genes get to the next generation, those genes that did, win. The ones that didn’t, die off. So over time what do we get in evolution? Highly specialized traits for the purpose of sex. In essence, we are sex machines.

I could go on, but there are other interesting points that I want to get to, these include:

Historically, Alpha males (rulers of the ancient world) had harems of young woman. These harems were usually guarded by eunuchs. High ranking officers were allowed harems as well. Higher officers with larger harems and lower officers with smaller harems. Average men were lucky to marry late in years after accumulating some wealth. Most of us are decedents of Alexander the Great or Genghis Khan like figures.

He confirms that a man’s sexual strategy is quantity of partners, while a woman’s is quality of partners.

He confirms that a woman’s sexual strategy does include cuckolding, with parallels made between birds. In this way she can use resources from a cuckolded male and sire a child of high quality genetic material.

He confirms that a man’s sexual strategy does include bastard sowing. In this way his genes have a better chance of survival through sheer force in numbers.

He confirms that youth is the primary trait that males find attractive, because it implies fertility. The younger a woman is the longer she can breed for. In addition capability of breeding is also an attractive factor, thus men look for a good waist to hip ratio and large breasts for child rearing. Therefore, males are attracted to a female’s duration of fertility, capability of child birth and rearing. It’s rather calculated, and explains why we are so visual. Furthermore, it explains why we progressed from a rather hairy animal to a hairless one. With each generation, men selected for the less hairy trait, since hairless skin implies youth.

He confirms that females in nature are attracted to displays of status. Since females select males with these status displays, each successive generation becomes more adept. The author suggests that male creativity and witticism is the human equivalent of peacock feathers.

Finally, he concludes that humans have large brains mostly for navigating our social environments, for language, communication, trade and chess maneuvering up the hierarchy.

The book is long, and the first half relies mainly on non human examples. The author tends to jump around with examples in nature for the first part of the book and it does get annoying to read since he dances around the point. With that said, after the first part, wow. Some great material and examples in nature of the redpill. Most of it won’t be a surprise, but it’s worth reading if you want to know the science behind the red pill.
