Musk’s aching loneliness

Elon Musk has it all—except love, said Neil Strauss in Rolling Stone. The South African-born engineer and entrepreneur is one of the only people in history to start four billion-dollar companies: PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX, and Solar City. But after splitting with his latest girlfriend, actress Amber Heard, Musk has no one with whom to share his luxurious lifestyle. ”Being in a big empty house, and the footsteps echoing through the hallway, no one there—and no one on the pillow next to you. How do you make yourself happy in a situation like that?" says Musk, 46. The breakup hit him hard; Musk almost didn’t show up for the launch of Tesla’s new mass market Model 3 electric car in July. "It took every ounce of will to be able to do the event. For most of that day, l was morbid. And then I had to psych myself up: drink a couple of Red Bulls and tell myself, ’All right, do it!'" Months later, Musk—who has five children with his ex-wife Justine—-still feels empty without a companion. ”When I was a child, there was one thing I said: 'I never want to be alone.” He whispers, "I don't want to be alone.”
