Or even more commonly it centers and focuses on their... wait for it... VAGINA. Instead of a broken fingernail, their PTSD is due to "menstrual cramps" (or that one time {at band camp?} they were "raped" -- aka the sex they had with that guy that they later decided they didn't like, and so wished they hadn't done the deed, etc).

If any of you chaps have seen the miniseries "The Pacific ", about US Marines in WWII, there is a scene that this post can relate to. After the war ends, Corporal Eugene Sledge returns home with severe PTSD and stays with his parents. His mom starts berating him about doing something with his life, and to basically get over his experiences. He has trouble sleeping and staying focused. She thinks he is exaggerating. His dad, a psychiatrist who treated WWI veterans with PTSD, tells her "You just don't understand what these boys have been through."
