This type of recommendation would be to focus on your career, get promoted, etc.
From what I've seen, often promotions will go to women or men that are unqualified but only have the position because they know someone. This is especially the case in large corporations where they constantly beat the drum that that there needs to be more women in management. This has led to an influx in female project managers while men and foreigners do the grunt work. This is the case in the tech industry as well. How do you progress in your career when you're not going to get promoted because 1) you're too good at your job to promote, and 2) others who don't work as hard as you are getting promoted?
