I Always thought I was The only one who thought that. WE live in The 3rd Floor and I Always Carey Up all The groceries Up there. When my Mom says to Walk multiple Times I reply to Her: "I rather choose death than to Walk a second time down there" Im Happy im Not The only one.

It's really quite simple, men are problem solvers. We very much appreciate efficiency and simplicity. Multiple trips are unnecessary.

Lifting weights because it's enjoyable and offers trackable progression which lets you see how far you've really come the last few years.

Exactly. It's a personal goal. An achievable goal. Something to live for, to cherish and maintain. Some people just look too far into the horses mouth and question everything. Life isn't complicated. Do the things and it'll reward in kind.

The whole illness thing is crazy. I used to get sick multiple times a year before joining a gym, like really sick, fever, nausea, etc. Now I get an occasional seasonal allergy. I haven’t had a temperature in years.
[–]MichaelSkarn_FBI41 points42 points43 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Not gonna lie, when I started lifting around 20 years ago, I did it to improve my appeal to women.
After a while I realized I enjoyed it, and did it for myself. Better confidence, better sleep, better general feeling, better moods, better strength. I can’t recommend it enough.
[–]fruguy15 points16 points17 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I started for that reason too. Not gonna lie, I like the attention still.
I'm also pretty dominant in the sack. Can't manhandle a girl and pin her down being a weakling.
I do actually enjoy it too. Hitting a new PB is a great feeling.
[–]john_moura6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I started for looking better, but not even thinking of women.
Stayed because I was getting some interesting attention from women.
Now I'm in for the healthy part. I just feel so much better.

For example, mine did, but she's now dead, just like the hope that women will be normal human beings to me ever again.

[–]Detallado17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Lol seriously I do this, I hit the gym just to become physically stronger, I rarely do abs, I just want to become "strong"
[–]TossedBurrito909 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Abs are as important as the back. What use is strength if your lower torso cant keep up with the upper torso and arms?
[–]Detallado2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I do abs, I just don't focus on getting that 6-pack perfect ab, I'm physically fit, but I have a belly
[–]GodOfPerverts2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If that includes deadlifts and squats your core is going to grow anyway(not saying you can ignore them or whatever just that those do train it).
I do squats and deadlifts I just don't focus on having a perfect ab, I still eat a lot of sweets though

I started lifting because I am extremly weak compared to my peers. I started of with a 66 lbs bech in January when I started to take lifting more serious. Now I have a 110lbs bech(for reps) and 147 lbs bodyweight. I know it's not much but I'm still proud of myself for actually improving at something for once. And the awesome thing with lifting is that not only your numbers go up but you start to notice some more muscle mass on yourself

Tell me mamas boi but i like helping my mom for groceries. Actually i take list what she wants and go get em to her house once a week. You won't die or run out your youth, if you help your old lady sometimes. I don't believe live only for yourself bullshit.

Remember to stretch and foam roll/get massages as well guys.
Stops issues further down the line - like I'm encountering mild RSI right now - and also makes you feel amazing with huge benefits.

I'm not gonna spend hours of my time in the gym for any reason. I like my video games. If you wanna get swole, you're spending 2-3 hours in the gym 4-5 times a week. You're buying supplements and eating 5,000 calories a day (or however much it may be for you). Shit gets expensive.
I don't want to impress a woman with my muscles.
I don't see any other tangible, fungible benefits to lifting.
So why would I do it? Maybe it's fun for other guys. Great, go for it. This whole "everybody gotta lift man self-improvement" thing is pointless.
Just like the general PUA knowledge of "go to the gym bro". Why would I dedicate 15 hours a week of slaving away in order to have 20 minutes of sex 2-3 times a week? Doesn't seem like it's worth the bother. No more than a guy who works 40 hours a week at his desk job, in order to get a mcmansion and 2 cadillacs, hoping his wife will fuck him.

[–]Ben_Eszes5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Hear me out. I play video games a ton, but I also work out. As a lifter, I think you are misrepresenting it with your statement.
You don't need to be "swole." Lifting in a smart, organized manner 3x a week for a grand total of 3 hours per week can still get you pretty fit. It's really fun for a ton of people, especially once you get past the beginner stage and start feeling comfortable at the gym. You don't need supplements and you don't need 5,000 calories a day. I have done frequent lifting in the past, but now, it's just 2 meals a day (and they aren't big meals) plus 3 workouts a week that are each an hour long. Point being: you don't have to commit your life to lifting to still enjoy the benefits of lifting.
Neither do I. I don't care about women anymore. BUT, I enjoy looking aesthetically pleasing. There's something gratifying about it. It's self-derived fulfillment at that point -- not seeking validation from girls.
So why would I do it?
For fun or for challenging yourself, I guess. Also, the health benefits. I used to look down upon lifters, calling them dumb "meatheads" until I started lifting and seeing how great the community is.
Why would I dedicate 15 hours a week of slaving away in order to have 20 minutes of sex 2-3 times a week?
I don't know. I think that's a bad reason too. But I think most people go to the gym for other reasons. They show up to get swole and get laid, but they end up staying because they found something pretty great.
[–]NathanHollister-2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I don't enjoy looking aesthetically pleasing. I don't care what other people think of me. I derive my validation internally.
[–]Ben_Eszes0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I regret writing what I did because you obviously didn't even read it.
Is that all you think about lifting: looking good? This is exactly why I said you're misrepresenting it.
[–]Bleu_Cheese_Pursuits3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I lift because it is nootropic. It enhances my performance in domains peripheral to athleticism. Also, I have a home gym; so I might spend 15-20 hours a week lifting but only like maybe 3 of those hours are actually lifting...the rest is reading, writing, doing stuff around the house. In other words the time commitment is negligible. The cost of eating to build muscle is negligibly larger, if at all. It won't make you live longer (that is mostly diet) but it will promote long-term mobility. I intend to still be deadlifting hundreds of pounds in my 50's.
[–]HipsterNgariman1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I understand where you're coming from. We're all dealing with some shit in our life and the trend wants that lifting will improve everything for everyone, and I have to disagree. Some people may just really enjoy food and that's one of their motivation to get stuff done. I'm not saying "enjoy food" as in "I got depressed and gained 50kg eating Haagen Dasz" but rather having the beer belly of someone that enjoys a casual living. I don't think there's an issue with that if it is the way you've found to drive you forward.
[–]NathanHollister-3 points-2 points-1 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. "Life bro" is given as the solution for everything. It helps some guys but not others
[–]SuckMyDickLibtards0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You can avoid lifting but if you don't do as much as power walking once in a while and at least basic pushups, you're just a worthless ball of tar that will die from heart disease at the age of 38.
[–]NathanHollister0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
My BMI is 18. I'm far from a ball of tar my friend. Please reserve your anger for people who actually harm you as a result of their decisions.

I go 3 times a week. 1 hour 20 minutes each time. That's 4 hours a week.
[–]NathanHollister0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And you enjoy it, good for you. But when I go, I don't enjoy it. It's miserable and painful.
