I think he's saying that because the graphics were weak, they somehow are different to today's games. This is actually a pretty prevalent mentality with young people. It's completely wrong viewpoint, but a common one.

Games today can show visual and graphics that can almost replicate a real vision, Giving the player sensation and feeling of a normal real life, Tricking your mind into believing that this virtual game is real, Since it is giving almost the same feeling and sensation of real life. Your mind can differentiate between real and virtual reality. But this is still confessing for him since because this kind of virtual visuals can only appear in dreams or thoughts. Since the game almost gives the same feeling and your playing it for a long time it is kind of true real reality to him, And since you have achieved life goals and success according to the game. Your mind will automatically turn off changeling and development system partially not entirely since you still some times leave this reality waiting for a new game or getting bored or facing real life. Since the real life is million times harder and you have shut off your changeling system he will automatically make you return to the old life the virtual one where you was succesful.

Hold on, are you saying that older games didn't have all the things you just mentioned because of the visuals?

Games like Zork, which is completely text based... gave you textual descriptions of the world you were exploring. The players imagination drew the entire landscape with better visuals in your mind than what will ever exist in VR, or on a monitor. It was completely what you wanted it to be, and not limited by technology or the visions of the art team in the offices of the game developer.

The sense of accomplishment for fully mapping every dungeon of the original Bards Tale series (hands down my favorite game in the history of gaming was the first BT) was nice, but I wouldn't say that it left me saying 'No need to chase any other dreams'.

If anything, I would say that accomplishing goals in gaming (old school, or current gen) encourages you to try challenges in the real world.

Todays single player games are more visually appealing, but to say they are robbing men of anything is just silly. They (unlike movies) are an interactive escape where the 'viewer' gets to define the fate/direction of the character/story in ways that have never been imagined before. They challenge people to approach problems in ways they might not have thought about, which is very useful in the real world, and even allow you to repeat scenarios and apply different tactics in simulation that would be too costly (or flat out impossible) to attempt in the reality.

Which is another point I would like to make, simulators... allow you to experience things you might not be able to in reality. I'll never be a submarine captain, but I can be in Cold Waters, I'll never be a commercial air line pilot, FSX has me covered.

I'll never be a female amputee storming the breeches of Normandy, and I won't be on the PC either, cuz fuck EA, but you catch my drift. lol

Gaming in multiplayer is the new social norm. You talk to people from around the world that share at least one common interest (the game), some times you make friends, some times you make enemies... just like going to a bar, with a lot less expense. There's is literally no difference between modern multiplayer gaming and the time old tradition of talking on party lines (back when they were a thing).

All games, new and old, challenge the player in some form to be better than the game they are playing... they (the games) want to be beaten, and taking up their challenge encourages people to accept challenges in their real life as something that they can over come.
