Tinder Bio: “Low key depressed and bipolar..just want some guy to strangle me”...yeah that’s not bragging rights that’s a cry for help

exactly, I am into choking sexually quite a bit as my kink but I don‘t want to choke a fake ‚depressed‘ girl because of her psycho tendencies and her mood swings. And I don‘t want to be hit by her with any bs like ‚you hurt me/ you strangled me‘ and be reported to the police because she is bipolar and can‘t get comfortable with her sexuality and her own kinks.

There are reasons why men commit 80% of all suicides. One of them is that men are usually much, much later diagnosed with depression than women, if at all and if they are diagnosed then they get less help much later.
Also, the double standards here are especially amazing. You can read everywhere that depression in woman are on the increase, but let's be honest... If a woman says "I am lonely and depressed." then she usually means that the Chad of her choice did not talk to her, while she is still very well connected within a network of friends.
If a man says "I am lonely and depressed." then this usually means he has not talked to anyone outside work in four weeks.
I should know, I am suffering from depression and it is fucking hard to get help as a man.
[–]TheMarvelousSchmuck29 points30 points31 points 7 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
100% this. The overwhelming majority of "depressed" women don't know the fucking meaning of the word. They've got armies of people practically breaking down their door to rescue them if they so much as hint that they've been feeling kinda sorta blue over the past few days. White knights will practically rain from the sky just to offer to spend whatever amount of money they need to in order to cheer her up.
Men can and will spend several months at a time alone. Not just alone, but cripplingly isolated, the kind of alone that starts changing how you view the world and life itself. The kind of alone that breeds the kind of thoughts that nobody should be thinking.
They'll spend these long isolated periods grappling with the darkest of thoughts and feelings, struggling to even find a reason to get out of bed in the morning (hell, often struggling to find a reason not to eat a bullet) before anyone even so much as asks them if something is wrong.
And if you do tell them something is wrong? You get an obligatory, almost robotic "Well, maybe you should get out of the house some more." Then they hope that shuts you up so that they don't have to hear anymore of your mopey shit and can go on with their life, optimally with less you in it.
I've experienced it firsthand. I've fought with major depression for the past several years, and you know how many people on this planet know about it? about 10, maybe. One of them is a doctor, and only about 5 out of those 10 people would actually care if I died.
With men? Nobody asks. Nobody notices. Nobody gives a holy fuck when they find out.
Depression is kind of like war. There's real war, where men die screaming and alone in a ditch in some barren wasteland where they're out and sight and out of mind. Then there's fake war, where women think society is waging war on them because there weren't as many vaginas as they wanted in the latest shitty movie.
If a "depressed" woman had to live through even a single week of what men put up with, it's almost assured that they'd be found dangling from a ceiling fan by day 7.
[–]CursingWhileNursing16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I think your war analogy sums it up perfectly.
I also might add that there are very different reasons for men and women to develop a depression. Sure, there are women that had to suffer through terrible things and develop a reactive depression, but this is true for men as well.
Then there is the kind of depression that is caused by an imbalance of the brain chemistry, which also happens to men.
But what happens mostly and almost exclusively to men is the kind of social isolation that is causing lonelyness, isolation and subsequently depression. And this is getting worse.
Oh and yes, even I fucking love it when people tell me "Being so depressive is not good, you need to brighten up, man!" You don't say, moron...
[–]polarwaves0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Holy shit this is spot fucking on. Well written
[–]HipsterNgariman14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
There are a few types of depression. But the general metaphor is, see yourself as sailing a boat, and depression is a very thick fog and you don't know where you're going. Don't let it sink, brother. Sail as hard as you can in your current direction until the fog comes off eventually. Learning the gratitude of life and enjoying every moment given to you is the way to go. Always have things to do. It's when you do nothing (or have a very strong routine) that you get into depression, you just start thinking too much. Keep sailing, meeting new people and keeping yourself busy with things that make sense to you.

A couple of years ago I was going through some very difficult circumstances and things got on top of me.
I was in my GP surgery and saw a poster on a wall that said to apply on a website for help (this is the UK NHS). So I ended up attending a weekly course for several weeks, which did nothing at all. I had specific issues that needed solutions and I didn't know what to do.
They did a follow-up telephone consultation. I told this young woman on the phone what was going on and how I felt and she had nothing. She asked me what concrete steps I had taken to end my life and I described exactly how I would do it, where and the equipment I'd gathered and why. Steel cored washing line, jump out of the loft hatch (for some stupid reason it's over the stairs in my house so there's an excellent 15-20ft drop, more than enough to probably decapitate me).
She said just so of said "Oh". She advised to me contact The Samaritans if it got really bad.
That was it. I'd told her exactly what I'd do and how I was feeling about things and... nothing.
As a single middle aged man in his 50's I feel like my life is pointless and worthless anyway, so this just reinforced it.
In the end a very good friend (female - it's why I don't subscribe to the AWALT doctrine though it does describe a good many) helped me get through it. The NHS were useless. A previous GP offered me Seroxat and the side effects scared me plus you have to commit to using it for a long time with the possibility that it doesn't help at all and coming off it may make you feel worse.
[–]LoveIsNotFree0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well, did you really expect compassion from a stranger? Idea of a friend exists for a reason. I don't expect a person who really wants to save someone's life to stay in a conveyor phone call center setting for too long, he/she would probably become a friend to a certain amount of people instead. And if one is genuinely trying to be a friend to every unhappy person ever, there is probably something mentally irregular about him/her anyway.
[–]CursingWhileNursing3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Thanks for the encouragement! And yes, staying busy is quite important when you suffer from depression, also I am lucky enough to have family members that love me and who I love. For whatever reason, my little niece and nephew love me and whenever I have a dark time, I think of them.
Meeting new people is... difficult for me though. I am an Aspergers' and although I am at the lower end of the spectrum and quite functional and although I look like the average person on first glance, I am not. Interacting with people on a personal level can be quite difficult for me, which is one of the things that lead to my depression in the first place.
Interestingly enough I always wanted to be more socially connected, although I am a recluse by design, if you want to say so. Which made me the perfect victim for women or generally for all kinds of predatory and egotistical people, which subsequently fostered a deep mistrust about people in general. (Also, getting raped and then send away by the police, because "men don't get raped" is not helpful in creating trust in society or people.)
What helped me was a "I can't be bothered" attitude. I don't hate people in general, but I have learned that a lot of people are simply assholes and that most people are unimportant to me. I simply don't care anymore about a lot of things, screw them; I say and I feel better with this stance. I rather focus on the few people that are really important to me.
And discovering that MGTOW is a thing also helped. I am not what some assholes call an "incel", although I fucking hate this term and think that it tells a lot more about the people using it than about the people this term means, but understanding how women tick, how they use and abuse men and why that made me the perfect victim was immensely helpful and gave me some serenity.

Me too man. I talk to work people all day and hate my life/job. Then go home and im asleep within an hour. Then on the weekends i usually just hang out alone and drink. I've been trying to stop but every single weekend I just give in.

Right lads, before we go on this tangent, depression is real and regardless of gender shouldn’t be downplayed.
It’s so easy to do so, I could call any of you out and pretend you’re not actually depressed, but how could I ever know?
Women and men both get depressed, the only thing that should be focused on is how Male depression is treated so indifferently within society. Men do need help, they don’t seem to get it as much as women

Depressed guy vs depressed girl
[–]ieatarse2246 points47 points48 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
lmao this is more like it.
Used to work behind a bar a few years ago, i have bad anxiety and depression.
This girl gets upset because of god fucking knows what.
SHE GETS THE ENTIRE NIGHY OFF (we’re already at work). She spends the entire night just walking around eating FREE food and FREE drinks. Oh, she still gets paid for all this.
I get a panic attack a couple days later whilst working and i’m clearly worked up about it.
Guess what i get... No more hours (0 hour contract) :)))))))))
It’s incredible how well females get treated compared to guys. Guys get thrown under a rock at the slightest fuck up or sign of them needed help etc.
Girls get places gently on a sofa, get free food, money, attention, foot massages and even get someone to fan her to keep her cool.
It’s fucking crazy.

I think nowadays people (mostly girls, probably) confuse temporary sadness -> with depression.
If you get stopped by every light on the way to work, Chad didn’t text you, and work was a bunch of meetings, you might be sad. You might be stressed. Both legitimate feelings. But you aren’t objectively depressed. And girls feel more comfortable posting about their feelings and reaching out to others to make others aware of their struggles. And hey, it’s fun to play a victim who’s “fought” their way through a difficult time.
It breaks my fucking heart to see men close to me struggle with mental illness and I don’t even find out until drastic measures are taken.

well some can’t, but I think it’s shortsighted to throw all women under the bus for that - I’m sure there are millions of women struggling right now with closeted depression and we can’t forget that
[–]KingZorc11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
People do it with anxiety as well, both men and women. Had a guy tell me he suffers from anxiety even though he's engaged, has two kids, a large social circle of friends, and has no problem talking to everyone. Meanwhile I take days to psych myself up just to go shopping. It takes me months just to get a haircut.

I know a decent amount of white chicks that have legitimate depression, most clinically diagnosed, others that really need to seek help.
Are there a lot of people acting like they have depression, hell yes. Is Generation Z also fucked and clinical diagnosed depression on the rise, you bet your ass.
Don't get me wrong, depression in Men is a very real, under reported, misunderstood, and often joked about subject and needs to change, but, we can forget that others also have issues as well.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
White girls faking "EVERYTHING" because they just want to be victimized and oppressed and Garner attention.
Saw this white girl yesterday on the internet making a video "calling out the haters" because they said she wasn't black. Her excuse was "I never said I was full black, one of my parents is, so fuck you I'm black". She was in the comments shitting on everyone who questioned her.
I asked her for a photo or any kind of proof. Make a video with your black parent. Or just a photo of you two together. Just something that will make all your haters shut up.
I was blocked almost immediately. Just goes to show how far women will go for those sweet victim points.

I believe the depression/BPD thing is a way of removing responsibility for negative actions. You're not held to account for your actions if you're not of sound mind so the easiest thing to do is claim that you're suffering from mental illness.
It's effectively the bullshit temporary insanity legal plea but for gang bangs and acting like a fucking psycho.
[–]Cagalhoto20021 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Depression is harsh. A solution for it is to toughen up. People used to say back in the day to "man up" . It can be challenging to re-wire our own brain through best practices (routine, diet, exercise, etc), but it is possible. Like so many people, I have done it, and learned much in the process.
[–]Gloval11 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The amount of people, especially women but men too, who say they are "depressed" really mean "I'm too lazy to change my life into what I want it to be" is at an all-time high. It's astounding how little effort people want to put in, and would rather blame a disorder they googled. It's an insult to people who legitimately battle with these things.
