Just use a safety razor. Really easy to use and you can buy hundreds of blades for the same price as 3 Gillette blades.

The blade should be flush and parallel to the clasp that holds it. Make sure to lather with warm water, even better to do it after a shower. You'll get the hang of it, and with time you'll see these things work way better than any of those garbage disposables.

I tried this, got similar results. So I bought a "3 piece safety razor" which uses the same single blades. Best shave I've ever had.

You might want to tuck that blade in a bit next time.

I recently started using a straight razor and my advice would be don't shave till you have a good stubble, if you need to shave more regularly then get a safety razor the one that takes the full blade .

Your placement of the blade is HORRIBLE. Of course you cut yourself. Check out youtube, I'm sure they have some videos.

Check out the link below. Look at the pictures. The blade is much closer to the body of the straight razor. I've been using a straight razor for years. Able to use both hands. I rarely cut myself.

Your blade is sticking out way too far out from the holder. No wonder you cut yourself!

I love my old safety razor but also got one of these cut-throat deals a couple weeks ago to give it a try. Why not for 16 bucks? Overall I like it more than I thought I would. I hold it so the blade is almost parallel to the skin, angled ever-so-slightly and it's literally like a magic wand where roughness goes in and get smooth skin on the other side. I've never seen anything quite like it. That said, I still use my safety razor for some of the tricky parts until I get good enough with this thing. It's an impossibly-close shave and it's awesome.

A shavette is a good choice but it has a steep learning curve. I also recommend a DE safety razor for the beginning, maybe you want to go to a real straight later, they are more forgiving than shavettes. Cheers!
