Eliana Maria Krawczyk was aboard the ARA San Juan when it imploded (was crushed by sea pressure).
The boat's skipper was Pedro Martin Fernandez, a 45 yr old male.
Miss Krawczyk, age 35, was the first Argentine submarine officer, but not commander of the vessel. Even with rampant tokenism, she was far to young to expect such a command. However, I would not be surprised if they had been grooming for such a command, for reasons of political correctness and tokenism.

Actual sub warfare qualified and 12 year vetran of the USN sub force here chiming in, while she may not have been a commanding officer (CO) as long as she was a line officier (aka URL officer - unrestricted line) and not a LDO (limited duty officer)
Most JO's (junior officers) qualify to supervise the reactor (not sure if this sub was nuclear) first as EOOW (engineering officer of the watch) basically represent the ENG (engineering officer) while he is not actively in the engine room.
After which once they become more expreinced they start to qualify OOD (officer of the deck) basically like EOOW they are the captains representitive in controling/operating the entire boat that way the captain isn't up 24/7 to run the hour to hour.
Basically my point is she very well may have been "driving" the boat when it imploded or she could have been the EOOW in either case its not impossible to think she could have been involved.
but that is just pure supposition, that said while this was not a US submarine i can say that nearly all of our sub's systems have at least 1 back up to ensure if the primary source goes down we still have a way to steer/breathe/get to the surface ect. ect.
many many many things have to go severly wrong and some major mistakes in handling emergency proceedures have to happen in order to lose an entire submarine due to "implosion"

It was a German built TR-1700, a Diesel-Electric class designed and built for the Argies by Thyssen. They are said to be the fastest diesel-electrics; as of now, only one other exists.

So there were already difficulties. If all power was lost, one expects the captain would have been summoned. This does not have the look of e.g. the Fitzgerald or Helge Ingstad, where an oblivious, poorly trained or unattentive female officer on watch screwed the pooch.
By the way, this was the boat which was able to sneak up on the USS Mount Whitney (which I believe is currently the 6th Fleet's flagship) during an exercise.

Ah sounds like they were snorkeling/running the desiel, means the auto shutoff for the induction plenum failed.
But it still should take a minute or so for that to go sideways plus when snorkeling you're supposed to have a sump watch jic the auto shut off on the induction side fails. (Watches a sight glass to make sure the ventilation doesn't take on water/if so act as an early alert, literal safety of ship watch)

Least in the military women are in a minority coupled with those that call the shots aren't often even close to being system experts so when told to do something unsafe/out of capabilities there are more competent people around to act as failures to prevent things from going wrong.
Aka despite female leadership not as many mishaps occur despite incompetence. actually this goes with all bad leadership in the military though.
