Sometimes when a person feels guilty, and don't know they feel guilty, it can feel like you are in danger of being attacked. The fear increases with the guilt, but you don't know it's guilt, you think it's <men, green people, Martians, some "outside" group> but really, it's a fear of retaliation.

Then men will look like vicious animals, children, whatever the guilt manifests in. And you won't see it.

Truly, the best thing to do us remind them of innocence. I know that sounds crazy and soft, and it doesn't mean "let them get away with it".

The guilt is neither their friend our ours because this is the element that puts us in danger.

To answer your question, I would question what the "maternal instinct" really is.

To answer the main question, yes i think there are. Some people are born unable to read facial expressions, some lack empathy, some lack other useful instincts.

Yes. One thing I've realized is that some people just shouldn't have kids. The idea that all women have the maternal instinct is nonsense. It's crap that you hear throughout your life but never question. No different than marriage/relationships. I'm not saying this to bash on women because I think some fathers don't get attached to their kids.

Yes, my ex had zero maternal instinct.

She also had zero emotional empathy whatsoever, to the point that when I needed a little pep talk about my college plans she dropped me like a bad habit.

I would call her a sociopath, but sociopaths are charming and she's socially retarded just like me.

She was very uncomfortable around kids and was vehement about her complete lack of desire for them every time the subject came up.

Which I thought was great when I first met her, because I didn't particularly want to become a dad and start a family either.

I just didn't make the connection between her lack of maternal instincts and the complete void where her empathy should be until it was far too late.

Psychology research shows that women tend to be more 'agreeable'--to go along with the crowd; men have less of this personality trait. When feminists are surrounded by other feminists who have the same negative views about motherhood, women can more easily form negative opinions about it. From our male point of view, since we are less likely to be swayed by other's opinion, this can be more difficult to us to understand how some women get this way.
