What a shitshow. The thing is as foreign minister what did Freeland expect to accomplish with the tweet besides lazy virtue signaling? Diplomats are more effective working in a low key matter through back channels and the like, and not blaring it through social media like a scorned me-too "victim".

I wonder, and Canadians please weigh in, how much of this is a result of the armored car deal with Saudi Arabia. I read the previous regime approved a $13 billion deal but the current government has taken heat for not cancelling it given the Saudi human rights record. Is the foreign minister going rogue or is this Justin Castreau trying to have it both ways?

Instead of placing the blame on the woman that made the mistake this article does what is usually done when a woman fucks up: blame anything but the woman that fucked up.

Tldr: "Diplomacy by tweet is a bad idea" instead of "the foreign minister fucked up and hundreds of people will lose their job before we allow her honor to be besmirched for her stupidity"

The saudi's expect her to be treated like a man and fired. The west has gone apeshit with chivalry. It's like dueling over honor. We're supposed to be the enlightened ones.
