It used to be that very few men would ever wear sandals or flip flops (unless near water) and a lot of women didn't wear them. These days, nearly all women and many (if not most) guys do, at least in the younger generations. It's kind of the opposite of the tattoo trend. At one time, only guys had tattoos. These days, just as many if not more women than men have them.

I could be wrong but it seems like women are encouraging this trend. I went to a BBQ the other day and this girl was lecturing her boyfriend about his footwear and tried to convert him to flip flops instead saying he would look more "fun" and "laid back". She also lectured him about his socks - "if you must wear gym shoes with shorts then wear no show socks". She may not have necessarily been wrong but it was the way she spoke to him as she was pretty condescending.

I went to a shoe stored recently and this middle aged woman was trying to persuade her husband to try on a pair of sandals and he refused, they started arguing and left the store huffing and puffing.

What do you guys think? Are sandals and flip flops legit shoes for guys to wear in the summer or a trend driven by females?
