Imagine standing there with a group of women, an unconscious woman on the ground who is dying, and having to look at the rest of them and say:

"well, I know CPR, but I have to look out for myself. If I touch her, and she decides to regret me saving her life, she'll get one or two of you to line up and say i raped or assaulted her. Sorry, I gotta go."

Former emergency responder/fireman here.

The things our team was sued for:

Breaking the door to save a person from fire
Dismantling a car badly damaged in the accident bc it was the only way to get the driver
Breaking the window to get into the locked flat
Not allowing a dude to suicide successfully
...

In all cases the court rejected to take the case (and questioned accusers about their mental health).

Idiots are everywhere and it was long before #metoo shit, it just brought them some enthusiasm.

According to the American Heart Association, you are able to perform CPR on an individual if they are unresponsive and not breathing without fear of legal action.

This is due to what's known as "Good Samaritan Laws", which provide legal protections to those attempting to give aid to distressed individuals.

Regardless, this is a terrible reason to potentially let an innocent die.

If she's unconscious, consent to provide lifesaving or life-sustaining care is implied.

A paramedic once told me, "you can't hang up on Jesus". Once the heart has stopped completely, even if CPR is started immediately, it's very difficult to get even a few more minutes out of it. Most cases of "recovery" are AF/VT, which can be shocked back into a rhythm that resembles normal.

Meh, this is going too far. In my first aid training, the instructors told us it isn´t necessary to breathe fresh air into the lungs, theres enough in there already in most cases. This is also pretty good to know if someone with a highly contractable disease needs cpr, you needn´t put yourself in danger performing mouth-to-mouth rebreathing.

not to actually remove the air from your tires on this one, but no one who is not an actual medical professional should perform cpr on anyone

they have shown that people not knowing how to do cpr kills a lot of people and it has always put the person attempting liable for injuries they cause

you have always been supposed to call emergency services if you see someone blacked out or not breathing

the only exception is if a person is choking, where again you would be liable if you hurt them but choking people are presumed to be giving consent when they signal they are chocking via placing their hands on their neck to indicate the choking- this is actually the law in all 50 states and is placed in easy to see posters in restaurants

edit- good samaritan laws protect people who have been certified in cpr- if anyone who is not certified in cpr performs cpr the act is inherently unreasonable and you are liable for injuries

I think of my mother or my sisters or my niece, and I am trained in CPR, and I will try to save a woman's life if it appears she needs it and I'm the last resort. I would not be thinking of the woman. I would be thinking of her brother or son or father. I would want and hope another man would do the same for me.

This whole thing is starting to remind me of China. In China if you help a person who was hit by a car or something along those lines, you can be liable to pay for them the rest of their lives. It makes zero sense, has no logic except for basic human logic which is too basic for the circumstances, and it makes people not want to help anyone who is hurt in an accident.

Women are truly condemning themselves if they think this is a good direction to go.

First thing is first guys. (Duty to perform is legal talk) * 1. If you are untrained in CPR you have no Duty to provide if you feel you are unable to lack of skills. * 2. If bodily fluids are present you are not obligated to provide CPR as it posses risk to you. * 3. If you suspect Drugs there is no duty to perform either if you don't have equipment. Especially with the Fentanyl epidemic going around. * 4. As some one that is a specialist IE: Doctor, Paramedic. You have a higher duty to perform so if you cause harm you are liable. A ordinary person is not liable for this as they have no training. Having said that an off duty Paramedic or Doctor have no obligation to help.

Best thing to do is Call the Emergency and simply wait until arrive. In most Canadian provinces there is no Good Samaritan. Its an old Myth. The only thing you might be liable for is not calling for help.

It would be exceedingly difficult to sue someone for rendering you aid. Especially in a case of someone needing CPR. If you require CPR, you are not breathing and have no heart beat, you are dead. If your CPR fails, they are still dead and cannot sue you. If you are successful, they will live and it would be very difficult, even in the current environment to sue someone who saved your life.
