I saw this video on the front page several days ago and felt this subreddit would have a lot to add.

As insightful as this video is I really think it sends the wrong message. The message being: a man who understands women and wants the best for his relationship will cease trying to solve problems and will be there exclusively for emotional comfort. I think this is fundamentally flawed reasoning. Instead of doing what is obviously the best thing for both of them (but mostly for her) and just pulling the nail out, he should succumb to her pressure and effectively achieve nothing.

Obviously the nail-in-the-head is metaphorical, but the idea is clear. A real man doesn't do what is easy or what makes people feel good in the short term. A real man does what is right and what needs to be done. While she can kick and scream all she likes he needs to just pull the goddamn nail out, and while he proceeds to take even more shit he should just ignore it while disinfecting the wound and slapping a bandage on in. And while the process many be difficult and cause some pain, it is clearly the best for them (but again, mostly for her) in the long-term. And it is the man's function to look out for what is right and to do what needs to be done.

That is the view of men that we should be promoting. Not the view that men should just be castrated emotional tampons, and that way everyone is happy.
