I personally attribute part of the blame for the problem to the numerous machines invented with the good intent to 'ease their burden', but premised not on the long forgotten wisdom that the 'idle hands are the devil's workshop', instead it might have been more... pressure-ish related. And so they now have time to 'play games' in a padded sandbox where boxing gloves don't exist yet, because no need for them - enforced by society.
There's also other sayings - 'History repeats itself.' and 'What goes up, must come down.'.
