Yes! Twice in my life. Once on a motorcycle, once in my truck with a camper (and dog). It is very worth it! It would be nice if you had passive income of some kind, but 50k will last you a very long time.

Sometimes it makes you feel like jumping off the end of the pier, doesn't it? Obviously it's got to be some balance between good sense and good times, You'll figure out what's right for you. It's a good idea. Personally, I fear the exposure to all the bad that's out there, so I hole up and mind my own business but I've done it a couple of times back in the '60's and '80's. I seriously fear the cops and the women more than anything on the road. You've got to have your documents in order and a good lawyer in your back pocket if you get stopped for a burned out taillight. And you can't sit in peace and have a drink and listen to some good music without being hit up by some bar whore with a kid who wants to put her hooks into you. Sounds like a good idea anywhere but the US.

You'd prolly be better off moving somewhere with a very low cost of living and getting a job teaching English or something. You could make your funds stretch way further. Once your funds run out you'll still be in America, and you'll end up having to get a job again. Not a good plan IMO.

I haven't done it but I would definitely not sell a house that you own at your current age or at this point in time. Especially not if it would only net me 50K. A house, if you already have one, is going to be a massive asset to you even during a market crash (like the one that's coming in a few years time). Keep paying your mortgage. You'll thank yourself when you have a comfortable retirement. The cash you get from selling now will be worth more today than it will tomorrow but the house will always have a chance of appreciating and giving you 2X or 3X or more over time if you hold it and make your repayments diligently. You can leverage or even refinance the house in the future and make money off it without selling.

I know a guy who is about 41 who did this--got a little trailer attachment for his truck. From what he has told me it can be tough to find places to camp legally all the time and he'd like to get some contract work occasionally but for the most part he's totally free. He has the placid look now of a guy who just doesn't give a shit. Why not rent out your house and live in a trailer? Good luck!

fuck supporting a failing society, I am 27 cleared all my debt and just enjoying myself for a year before returning to the farm so to speak. Next round of work will be purely an associate absolutely done with management as I could give a hoot. Go to Moab, Utah.
