these were the original nerds. Not indoctrinated by feminism and political correctness. Not concerned about adding "diversity" to their team or their games. They were passionate about building something great, not so they can cash out ASAP, reach some financial estimates to please the investors, and not to "appeal to the wider audience" like AAA studios do today. And that's why their games were so brilliant.
[–][deleted] 38 points39 points40 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Those days are gone, gone forever.
Now we get titles that reflect the mediocre production of diversity hires, meritocracy went its own way.

Sometimes I don't know if it's just me or games are really this bad. I think sometimes they try something and it fails miserably. Though when that becomes systemic which it often does in AAA studios with quotas then it ruins a franchise.
Little wonder I'm a huge FROM software fan. When I think of all the developers I've supported over the last 10 years (FROM, Obsidian, Larian, GGG) it becomes pretty evident why I supported them so.

It's the gamers fault for putting up with this shit and buying shitty games.
[–]bingobongo9913 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sometimes there in indie PC gaming. 99% of triple a games are shit.

Japan is still good. Games like Persona 5 prove it.

gone forever
Doubt that. Sooner or later MGTOW retake position in game industry. TFM showed recently some more or less fun game with acronym stuffed on character's clothes. Talented guys will show what they capable on in the end no matter what

Its pains me so much there have been no new Age of Empire RTS's. Why on this Earth was this the only game franchise that used multiple resources and counter offensive unit types compared to the continuity of Starcraft/C&C iterations.
Truly it was a golden age of gaming and discovery.

A time when gamer culture was about 'loser geeks' creating cool shit with their newly learned computer talents. Tinkering and discovering new innovative interactions. Back when it was hard to break into the industry and it took blood sweat and tears to do it. Now that the barrier of entry has become lower than dirt, women have suddenly acquired an interest in compsci.

The Far Cry series is a serious contender.

Far Cry
Far Cry is a franchise of first-person shooter video games, all which have been published by Ubisoft. The first game, Far Cry, was developed by Crytek to premiere their new CryEngine software, and released in March 2004. Subsequently, Ubisoft obtained the full rights to the franchise and the bulk of the development is handled by Ubisoft Montreal with assistance from other Ubisoft satellite studios. The following games in the series have used a Ubisoft-modified version of the CryEngine, the Dunia Engine, allowing for open world gameplay.

Thank you WikiTextBot, that was most helpful. +1
[–]Judah_Earl0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It peaked with Far Cry 3.
Yeah, that was definitely amazing. It really helps though, if you have a top end system and a killer video card, as it's pushing the limits pretty hard.

[–]WoahScienceCool12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Now lets see that side by side with Max Payne 3. Lol.
[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Fucking hated Max Payne 3, short ass game with a PvP nobody asked for.
[–]WoahScienceCool9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Not to mention Max Payne in the third title was a white knight, fat, alcholic, washed up, woe-as-me, beta simp.
Gone are the days of the lone-wolf hard ass with 0 fucks to give, who walked in a room full of satanic thugs high on hallucinogens, brandishing an arsenal fit for a military platoon and blowing away anyone who so much as stood in his path.
They completely fucking destroyed the series with the third title. What a shitty way to end what was one of the greatest shooters and video game antiheroes of all time.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This so fucking much. Max Payne 1 (and 2) is probably one of my favorite games of all time for the EXACT reasons you stated, then when you realize Remedy didn't have anything to do with Max Payne 3 it's pretty obvious why it didn't live up to the first 2.
[–]Devil_Nights1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Max Payne 3 was the only one I ever played so I had a grand ol time with the ultra violence and cheesy narration. I actually really liked the MP too. Do you think if it was simply a standalone game with a different character that you would have enjoyed it more?
[–]Sp0k32 points3 points4 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I heavily enjoyed third one, story was meh but the gameplay was so fucking good. To each their own :)

Sadly this is a dying trend as most triple-A game studios are trying to be PC and have feminist writers - Mass Effect: Andromeda's lead writers were a shaved, purple-haired feminazi and a spineless SJW cuck. This can be seen in the writing (lead woman character is strong, independent and a good leader, while all the men are pussies, alien-human sex etc). This agenda pushing sacrifices quality of writing for the sake of being "diverse" and "non-offensive".
The same cunts bashed on Witcher 3, a Polish-themed fantasy game, that it was "too white" and didn't include any memorable female characters, or some girl at my school said S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is misogynist because it doesn't have women in it. Unless we rid ourselves of this PC correctness trend the gaming industry will continue to go down a spiral staircase, save for a few notable studios (CD Projekt Red God bless them).

A better example
Who is that? Just the creator of the most popular video game in history. No other video game ever has even come close to selling the amount the game that guy made. No other game in history has as many re-releases, ports, and remakes as his creation.
Don't know what game it is? Look closely at the picture. Hint. Mario, candy crush, and even minecraft isn't even in the same league.
[–]NietzscheExplosion12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That is a shitty picture , honestly the fucking screen looks like burger time, just say the fucking game.

Tetris
[–]Wrektdev3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not even feminist communism can stop the MGTOW and the thinking man, forever do what you enjoy men!
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's funny. Tetris was so successful because it's the first video game women liked to play.

could it possibly be?

The quake2 end-room after you killed Makron also had something similar. Only 1 woman was featured: Donna Jackson the "ID" mom. All others were men, From John to American McGee
[–]Kirou222 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good ol Max Payne, played the shit out of that game.
I would say The Witcher games from CD Project Red are still not tainted by the sjw garbage and with the upcoming Cyberpunk2077 here is hoping it will stay that way :>

I just recently finished Quake 2, Unreal Gold, and I'm now playing Blood. There was something special about gaming before all of this SJW nonsense and microtransactions. The best gaming memories I had were from the mid 90s till the mid 2000s. PC games were great (played a ton of Age of Empires and Battlefield 1942) and I loved N64 and PlayStation 1. Also most of game developers were men working together and taking time to make a great game they were passionate about. (creative freedom without time constraints) Sadly I don't think it will ever be like that again.

I loved Unreal. The game was longer than I thought and the music is great. The same guy who worked on the soundtrack worked on the original Deus Ex. (Alexander Brandon) I think it can be found as low as $2 during Steam Sales.
Btw I liked Quake 1 better than 2 but I enjoyed both.

Yeah I really enjoyed the Atmosphere of Quake 1. The expansions were fun too. Unreal is more of a futuristic Sci-fi atmosphere with various alien species.

nothing to do with gender imo just money, professionalisation of the video game industry witch leads to trying to trying to satisfy the masses creating games without flavour.
I just can't find a decent game produced by a team of women only, can you enlighten me with examples?
Man, would I not enjoy if Rico Muerte was real! Damn, I would love have a drink with him and discuss politics. That Maxiee boy got beta-soft in the proceeding sequels.
