Depends where you live. In Canada, minimum liability limits are 1 million so insurance can be expensive. In the US, it's a lot cheaper. Bare bones, liability insurance, can be as cheap as $30 a month. I work in auto insurance, and the corporate tax we pay is less than 1%. So you're really not contributing much to the gov't when you buy insurance. And profit margins can be razor thin, even negative. And there's always those people who drive without insurance.

I hate how driving is taken as a granted. Expense aside, I personally detest driving.

It's a "privilege", and yet society expects everyone to do it even though it's: expensive, dangerous, and requires some measure of skill that not everyone possesses.

It's shit that most cities, and most of society, are structured so that it's very difficult to get by without a car and the ability to drive. Also, consider that driver's licenses can be suspended for a variety of non-driving related things: namely falling behind on child support and falling behind on student loans.

Cars aren't a symbol of freedom, they are a symbol of dependence in places that are designed to be like prisons for those who cannot afford cars or cannot drive.

You could consider becoming a van dweller. Trade your current vehicle for a van and move out of the apartment(might have to get a storage unit to keep some stuff in). That way you could keep more of your income. But, winter is going to be here soon so that won't work if you live in a cold climate.

Look, i get where you're coming from, but its not like gynocentrism needs funding. Its the natural state of mankind. So, boycotting the system won't do anything to them. What I personally think you should do, is only focus on you. Build up some cash reserves and only leave construction when you have a better offer on the table.

That offer might be buying a rental property or some other passive income option. The real reason to leave construction is health after all. Work towards FIRE and enjoy your life. That's all. Minimalism is only good if it helps you get there faster.

I apologize if you're actually quite well off, I'm sort of assuming you're younger and looking for a game plan when what you need is a 5 year plan.

It's hard to break the $1k limit, but I've seen it done. I'm almost doing it myself. I spent years researching how to live the minimalist lifestyle, and managed to strike a balance that works for me. I made the transition about 5 years ago and have been living in a travel trailer out in the country and earn/spend around $1400 per month. This includes paying for full coverage insurance for my truck/trailer with $100/$250 deductibles respectively.
